RIP The King

Man, bummer. Without a doubt the most likeable golfer ever.

I was at the Masters in 2004 for his last ever major tournament. He was like 75, and his flexibility severly limited, but could still crank it down the fairway pretty good off the tee.

How'd you get tix for this? It's a lottery system as far as I know but did you get tix some other way?

My Uncle has been a Marshal at the tournament for the last 20 years (think one of those guys that holds up the "quiet please" signs.)

It's super hard to get on as a Marshal, but once you're in you're in for life. Each year he gets 4 passes to all 4 days of the practice rounds and to the par 3 tournament. He then trades some of those tickets for one day of the actual tournament.

He invites different people each year. I've been in 2004 & 2009, was invited a couple years ago but couldn't make it. In 2004 I went to 3 practice rounds and the Par 3 tournament. In 2009 I went to the practice rounds, par 3 tourney, and the opening round of the tournament.

When I was there in 2009, tickets for one day of the tournament were going for about $1,000 and practice round tickets about $250 on the secondary market.

If you ever had a chance to go, I'd go to the practice round. The whole point of it is to see the course in my opinion. It's totally surreal, like walking into a piece of Heaven. The real tournament days are great, but for the price the practice rounds are awesome, it's not like going to a preseason NBA game or something (I wouldn't go to that for free).

Another perk my Uncle gets is to play the course one day each year. I've gotta find a way to get on the course one day.
