Rumor: Jazz want to - and can - acquire Milsap. May trade Favors in draft day deal.

There continue to be rumblings about how the Jazz want to — and can — re-acquire Paul Millsap and might trade Derrick Favors, per my source.

I'm not a fan of this.

EDITED TO ADD: There seems to be confusion on this, so let me lay this out:

1. The Jazz would not be trading Favors for Millsap. Millsap is a free agent and there is apparently mutual interest between his camp and the Jazz at bringing him back to Utah.
2. If they did this, it's a sign that Lindsey and Snyder believe that the offense of a stretch-4 is more valuable than the defensive domination that Gobert/Favors provide.
3. The trade would be using Favors + 12 to move up in the draft to select someone they want. My guess is Porzingis, but that's just a hunch.
4. Millsap would then be brought in as a replacement to Favors while whatever draft pick they select develops alongside Exum and Gobert.
5. There's the very real potential this is a smokescreen. Reaching an agreement with Millsap and drafting accordingly breaks NBA's tampering laws, which isn't something the Jazz would do.
6. That begs the question: why would the Jazz be smokescreening, especially with the #12 pick.

This is so ****ing bone-headed.

So. ****ing. Boneheaded. This simply can't be true.

Better be for a star like lillard. For a pick I would come to mainland and yell like a donkey and DL!!!!!

I will reverse all my praise of DL if they trade Favors just so they can reacquire Millsap. Because I trust DL and the moves he has made I have to believe this is all distraction from what they actually want to do.

Deal might be Favors, Burke and 12 to the Knicks for 4 and Calderon with the target being Prozingis? Then Milsap in free agency?

Not saying I'm a fan of the deal. But I do wonder if Lindsey and Snyder think that Gobert/Favors can't co-exist. Although I think they can - and that Favors still has a couple of steps he can take, including outside shooting.

The Millsap thing is being reported by enough good reporters that I'm starting to believe despite so many reasons, including my own intel.

Jazz realize that going big (Favors/Gobert) helped them finish strong last year. DL: "We feel as though we want to capitalize on our size."

From Deseret News:

"Lindsey said he’s had many conversations with Jazz coach Quin Snyder about the possibility of playing more small ball, which would make a possible Millsap move an intriguing possibility because of the power forward’s improved shooting beyond the arc."

If they want Millsap for his spacing and outside threat, I'd rather trade Favors to NY to get Porzingis so they can spread the floor.

Millsap is 30 years old and hit his peak while Favors is 23 and still has room to grow - simple as that.

Also from Deseret News:

"“I think we saw the last 30 games what that can mean relative to our team. There’s no reason why for us to run from that,” Lindsey said. “In many ways, Derrick bails us out of that option. If Derrick was not as mobile or if he wasn’t good with the game plan or lacked instincts covering fours, it would be much more difficult.

“Derrick and his intelligence and mobility coupled with his size allows us to be unique. I would imagine we’ll continue down that path.”

That said, Lindsey wants the Jazz to be structured so they can adapt to lineups other teams throw at them, big and small.

“Roster building in my opinion is like having a good bullpen,” the Jazz GM said. “You better be able to match situations very well, because if you don’t that situation will come up and you’re in a bad way. We’re certainly mindful of that.”

Millsap is a free agent. Any trade involving Favors wouldn't be for Millsap - it would be for something else, and the Jazz would then bring Millsap in using their salary space to play the starting power forward. Again - not saying I agree with this decision; I love Favors. But it's sounding like a real possibility.

Poor Favors. He's shown nothing but loyalty and dedication to the organization, and he has to deal with these rumors about being traded for an inferior player who has a couple of good years left in him.

It really doesn't pay off to be nice.

It could a also be Philly. The Sixers can't afford to miss on this draft after the Embiid situation. They also punted on MCW. Philly could take Favors and Payne or Grant. That would be an excellent draft day for them. KOC may still have connections there.

If the Sixers don't think Russell is all that, it would make a lot of sense for them. Russell also said he didn't want to go to Philly. Not sure how serious an issue that is.

Right and then fans get mad when players aren't loyal smh.

My take? Lindsey went on and on about the versatility and strengths of Derrick Favors. I have a hard time seeing the Jazz get rid of him.

Sounds like the only way Favors gets dealt is if the deal is too good to pass up. That's what I hope at least.

its easy to piece together Snyder vouching for Millsap. could this have legs??

Also it's been reported that some members of the Jazz feel Porz is top-3 which is really kind of extreme when you consider Towns-Okafor-Russell..

I wonder if all the Favors rumors come about simply because he's the team's best asset. Solid, young, two-way big man, who can switch between the 4 and 5 and is on a team friendly contract? Just my opinion, but I don't think there is a single team in the league that wouldn't want him.
