Should the Jazz go after Steve Nash?

I know a lot of people don't like this idea but I think Nash would make this team super special. I also believe he has a good 5 years left. Plus playing with a young team will be good for him. I also don't think he would demand a trade but really wants to go to a winning situation.

So my proposal would be Devin Harris, future Utah first rounder, GS pick.

This also saves the Suns around 5 million I believe.

Jefferson

Special lineup that in my opinion would be championship contendors for a good 3-5 years. Especially as Kanter, Favors and Burks improve.

Yep. Devin Harris is an outstanding defender at the PG position. This team doesn't need a Steve Nash right now. We have won 8 out of our last 9 games. What we are doing is working. There is no need to look at trades right now. Come back at the trade deadline.
 
Nash cant play in the same level he did 3 yrs ago, but still he is Nash. It would be good to watch him under jazz uniform. He can help this team a lot for 1-2 years.
 
I am not inclined to trade for a player in the twilight of their career. I like Nash but no thank you.
 
We should merge this thread with the other threads, where all the replies are some variation of "No".
 
I do think that a trade for Nash would improve the Jazz. I was hoping when that draft came around years ago that the Jazz would be able to get him. I was thoroughly disappointed when they did not. There are a few things to consider, though: the most notable being what we'd be giving up in order to acquire him. I don't have any great ideas as to what to give up, but I certainly wouldn't outright reject the idea of making him a Jazzman.

I agree that Nash still has some gas left in the tank and will be a serviceable point guard for a few more seasons. He's a great distributor and he works well with the kind of athleticism that the Jazz have in spades right now. A good veteran ball handler, leader, and distributor could get the Jazz to pass the ball a bit more, which I believe is one area where they could certainly improve.
 
I'm pretty sure Devin Harris would be hoisting up his Finals MVP Trophy and that night there would be a thread proposing The Jazz trade him.

Hasn't the guy done pretty much everything asked of him? He's playing under control, pushing the tempo at the right times, not taking too many shots, making smart passes, playing solid D and not complaining about splitting minutes with Watson.

He's not Stockton, he's not D-Will. Never will be. But he is a veteran who has obviously realigned his game for the greater good of the team with positive results. I think that counts for a lot
 
I was talking to my girlfriend about this—seriously guys, this isn't like the "Memo at Best Buy" story, I really do have a girlfriend—and we agreed that with Nash on this current team, we would be insanely good! Like top 2/3 in the league good...BUT, with that said, we're playing good ball right now. I'm with one of the posters above that said we should wait til closer to the deadline, and see if making a move for him would really be in our best interests.

If you watch The Suns, most of their defensive sets are based on hiding Steve Nash. He's been a bad man defender for years.

What The Jazz gain in playmaking they'll lose in defense. And defense is what is winning this team games.
 
Devin Harris has played very well lately and last night it looked like his shot is coming back nicely.

Candrew nails it again.

I'll go one step further: Nash has ALWAYS been a poor defender. This is the reason that he'll never approach the likes of Stockton.

Has Nash been more productive on offense after 37? The stat sheet says so. I say, "perhaps, but if Stockton had preserved his body by playing on one side of the floor for 15 years, then we wouldn't be having this conversation."

He never had a shot, this is new.

If Harris can play anything close to how he did last night, then he will have reinvented himself and added about 5 years to his career.
 
Regardless of how good Nash may still be, you have to consider chemistry. Right now, the Jazz have it. Plugging in this player or that player does not automatically translate to a better team. For Nash to be effective, the whole offensive dynamic would have to change.

Personally, I like how Harris is coming along, and I think he is just going to get better as team continues to gel, and Ty works in more of the playbook.

I think the last thing this team needs is to add age.
