Among all NBA players Mitchell is currently ranked 7th in points per game in the playoffs.

That. Is. Not. Just. Rookies. - All. Time. Career.

You look at the names he is with in the playoffs and its mind boggling. He's mind boggling. But we all knew that.

Just bask in the moment and enjoy . . .

Man, Michael Jordan was a savage.

And Donovan is incredible. He's impossible to stay in front of, and his length and body control make it really to finish at the rim. When he learns to get to the rim a little more, and improves his 3P% a bit, he will just show up and score 30.

Yeah but ... it's only 4 games!

I love Mitchell as well as anybody, but these "stats" need some serious perspective. You're implying that DM is better than Elgin Baylor (No. 8), yet Elgin averaged 27.0 points over 134 playoff games.

I'm worried that the constant bombardment of Donovan with useless "records" is going to eventually become a major distraction for him and the team. I wish people would stop this nonsense.

For the amount of games Jordan played in the playoffs and to average that is amazing

Very well could be true, but we shouldn't be extrapolating into a future that has yet to occur. He could become the GOAT and he could get injured and flame out. No one can predict the future.

It's hard to process how crazy this is. Really, haven't we all dreamed about drafting this type of player for decades? At least since prime D-Will. And now we have him. And I don't think we've collectively processed that we have drafted a kid who is already great, and could go down as one of the best ever. Forget ROY, someone wins ROY every year; we drafted a hall of fame talent. We drafted a guy who could average 30 a night. A guy who could win MVP. A guy who could be one of the greatest guards who ever played. We drafted a guy who can win championships. This is ****ing insane. And you keep looking for red flags, you keep looking for reasons to doubt, to scale back expectations but the truth is there aren't any. He has answered every question. There is no limit to how hyped we should be. Our franchise changed over night in such a way that our all-star player leaving in free agency does not matter long term. It's literally a footnote thanks to The Don. This is everything we've dreamed about for years and years--franky, since the end of Stockton-Malone. I think it is fair to say we have never had a rookie this good. Mitchell could be the greatest Jazz player ever when all is said and done. He can bring us the hardware we got. He is going to attract free agent talent. He is going to be the most famous jazz player since malone. He already is. This is our Tim Duncan. This is our Dwayne Wade. We have our guy now.

Mitchell is the prince who was promised. We looked destined to be stuck in another rebuild cycle, to be yoked once again to the hampster wheel of mediocrity, and the 13th pick changed everything. Our fortunes changed overnight. We hit the lottery. I don't think we will fully be able to appreciate it until the off season, when this wild, amazing season slows down.

In high Valyrian "Prince" is a non gender specific term. So Maybe Kristen Kenny is the princess that was promised?

Hard to say. Maybe they rule together?

Who needs the future when we’ve got the present?

To go out on a limb, DM is better than prime D Will right now. Attitude, handle (and prime D Will had great handle, but nothing like DM), finishing ability, defense. The only area D Will might have been better was in the 3 pt shot, but put it all together and DM is better right now. I think if DM were our primary play-maker, as if we were still running a traditional offense with the PG dictating everything as with D Will, he would be averaging 8 dimes per game easy. But where the difference really lies is in attitude. In this regard DM is an NBA all-star where D Will was that high school kid we all knew that thought he was better than everyone else while he chucked up brick after brick.

Mitchell needs to work on his shooting consistency and his efficiency over the offseason. He scored with more volume than I am sure the coaches wanted but there is no doubt he will put in the work.

What a joy to watch! Now we just need to surround him with talent at the top that can ease his usage and improve with him.

Don’t worry about the distraction aspect.

As for the 4 game sample size..... he is doing this as a rookie. As the sample size grows I expect his production to grow as well.

The freethrow numbers are most staggering to me. All the guys on that list are getting ~10 free-throw attempts a game. Donovan is at 4. When he gets those star calls.. if he gets 10 attemps a game, and makes 8-9. he can easily breech 30ppg

Thats reaching a bit IMO. prime deron was scoring 21.5 with 10 ast & 4 reb on only 15 shots. He got to the FT line a lot, and shot a decent percentage (21.1 PER) Prime Deron was really, really, really good.

Donovan took more shots and scored and assisted less. And he is our primary playmaker, so i don't necessarily buy that argument. he has the highest usage on the team, by a lot. His usage is just aimed at scoring.

Heres the thing though, its ridiculous that we can even have this conversation, because they are indeed comparable! Donovan at age 21 in his first season comparing to DWill in his prime, a multiple time allstar, in his 7th season!

Donovan has a chance to become the biggest star this team has ever had.

exactly. he has a lot of room to grow still. that 3pt shooting comes up from 34%, and he gets to the line more as an established star? things could get ridiculous.
