Spurs Doing What Jazz Should be Doing

Sounds like they're tanking for a shot at Wembanyama. There are a bunch of nice players at the top of this upcoming draft though.

I can’t imagine Popovich sticks around for a rebuild year.

I think Pop is fine with just putting a small extension on his wins record and handing the baton to Quin Snyder next year.

Then the Spurs going to trade for Rudy to pair him with VIktor. It's going to be the greatest team in the history of sports.

I think the Spurs are smart enough to know that Murray is a good player, but he's likely a 2nd/3rd banana on a championship-caliber team. Trade him for assets now vs. wait until he's 30 when your draft picks the next few years are going to come into their prime and win together.

Wemby's the best prospect since Lebron - no guarantee you can just tank for him with the lotto, but the Spurs recognize that they'll need to homegrow their talent.

Spurs are doing an amazing job of getting a lottery protected pick from Charlotte and likely two pretty bad picks from Atlanta for a talented young player. Excellent work by San Antonio if this is truly the case....

You guys are crazy.

Not only is he a 2nd/3rd guy, he's a 2nd/3rd guy with glaring flaws that's difficult to build around.

The NBA is won on talent and players who are easy to build around. Murray is neither a top tier talent or a player who is easy to build around. Great move by the Spurs if they pull it off.

Uhh if anyone should be excited about the Spurs trying to suck *** it should be you.

Your boy Primo will get unlimited opportunities to develop and get reps.

But you got to act like you against it cuz you've staked your identity in being a "build the team around Mitchell, dont blow it up" guy and admitting this is a good move by the Spurs would be admitting the Jazz are making a bad move.

Atlanta doesn't have any great picks to send to San Antonio.

The Spurs would be smarter to just tank around Murray. They should play him just enough for him to have a good season, but lose as many games as possible. That's what GS did around Curry and Klay. That's what SA did around Robinson. It helped that those guys were hurt, but GS and SA still tanked with a good player already on the roster.

If the Spurs are successful, it won't be because of the Atlanta picks. It will be because their pick ends up getting a franchise changer.

Ahh yes, the famous "hey just sit out and waste a year of your career" move.

Yes, some guys may buy into that when they have extreme investment in the franchise (and are actually hurt, have a legit reason to rest), but that is not Dejounte Murray. Picks are picks. They are loading up to tank and use assets to make trades once they get their star next year. What you are suggesting is a fantasy land scenario, not reality.

But yeah, just continue to argue about what one of the smartest franchises in sports history is doing. They going to win more rings with this move.

We were considered one of the smartest franchises in sports when we had two Hall of Famers. San Antonio hasn't looked too bright since they lost ole Tim Duncan and the crew around him. They killed it with that Kawhi trade lol...

Not every team has the balls to tank, but the Spurs would be better served tanking with Murray than getting a bunch of picks outside the lottery.

It's okay if somebody disagrees with you Cy.
Lmao why end your post with that clown sentence?

Are you not also on here arguing with someone who disagrees with you? Is that not what you do on here 90% of the time. Pot calling the kettle black type beat

I was messing. We're good man. I was just messing.

For me, I would rather have a player than picks unless those picks have a chance to be top 5ish.

Charlotte's pick is lottery protected for 5 years then turns into a 2nd.
Atlanta's picks will likely be outside the lottery too.

I just don't think it's a great trade for San Antonio since all the picks could bust big.

Messing or trying to bait me into an infraction?

I've caught on.

I swear man. I wasn't.

But do you get what I'm saying about the picks? I just don't love those picks from Atlanta. I'd take them no doubt, but they aren't high profile picks.

I like getting the picks because it's unlikely you'll ever get more out of him than you can today. He's 25 already and probably not going to be hugely positive value on his next deal unless you really believe he's a perennial all-star.

Feels exactly like selling high on Jrue (which worked out well for the bucks tbf, I also like this for atl as well as sas).

Bucks were in a great position to buy high on a guy like Jrue since they were one piece away.

This is going to be a terrible trade for the Hawks IMO. They are more than one piece away.

But maybe if they can swing Dejounte by just trading Gallo and picks, maybe they are willing to give up Hunter to get Gobert. If they do that, I would see it as being more worth the risk. If it's just Murray added to their current core, it's going to disappoint.

If the Jazz want to have any chance of young stud All Stars wanting to stay in Utah through their 2nd contract, the Jazz really need to bring those players in together, like OKC did with KD, Russ and Harden. Then use the momentum of increasing the win totals and moving up the standings to make it harder for those guys to leave. OKC could have kept Harden if they were willing to pay him and increase his role. They let him walk after the team just went to the Finals.
