Sri Lanka bombings

Over 200 dead during the attack on Catholic churches and hotels. I thought Sri Lanka was quite safe country to visit... apparently there is no safe places on this planet anymore. So sad.

One of the bloggers I read (Mano Singham) is from Sri Lanka. He said violence had abated for the last 10 years or so, but there was a history of violence over the 40 years prior, and further back.

Yup they've had a terrible and long civil war that ended in effective defeat for the Tamil minority. Not really a country i would consider safe, (still i bet their homicide rate is probably significantly lower than the USA's) still a terrible tragedy.

Apparently it was done by radical islamists in retaliation to attacks on muslims in New Zealand. Man, world would be so much better place without any religions. Now it is just vicious cycle...Can we all just get along?

Its clear the left is succeeding in spreading hate around the world for Christians.

Notice the lack of care about this from this forum.

But, but ,but this isnt a leftist forum. Its totally moderate.

Ummm, yeah right.

This **** is getting so disturbing. The left pushing fake narratives all over the place in an effort to disguise its attempt to wipe out Christians.

Seriously though, where the **** are you bleeding hearts at? Why all the crickets?

It’s as condemnable as the NZ shootings were. An attack on any kind of place of worship is the cruelest of acts.

Agreed. But how many people here do you see condemning it? Just saying. There is a clear difference to how this forum and the left in general reacts to acts of violence against Christians as compared to anyone else.

This attack killed 300+ people. Surely it ranks up there in the amount of people killed by a hate crime. But the same people who will go on for days about other hate crimes, if it involves a white person doing the crime, are no where to be found. If some white guy does this we need to talk about white nationalists and gun control for days. There was more outrage about a kid with a MAGA hat and a smirk than there is about this. That should tell you everything.

No one but me finds the inconsistencies a little strange and alarming?

Correct.

Sri Lanka has 2.90 intentional homicides (isn’t it always intentional?) per 100,000 people. The U.S. has 4.9. Not terrible at 83rd worst in the world but considering our riches and power, yeah, we stink.

Edit: Nevermind, it’s terrible. I mean, and this is no disrespect to the country, but Rwanda is better than the U.S. in this regard. The same Rwanda that had mass genocide that one time. That’s pathetic.

I don’t know I can’t speak for others. Perhaps in our morbid nature as humans the NZ shooting was more shocking, with the first person footage, and having happened in a “western” (in terms of development) country.

Sri Lanka is popular destination for european tourists. Kind of rich man's India (similar culture, temples, food and price range but less poverty and scammers). I have not had a chance to visit that country, but i would like to visit it. Probably not so important for a general tourist from a North America who has much closer options to enjoy beach, good food and although different but good culture anyway (Caribbian countries, Central America, South America) which compared to Sri Lanka, Thailand, India and Bali are more expensive when travelling from Europe.

I am not a firearm or explosive specialist (and maybe just too dumb :-) ) - but isn't the price for explosives in every country above average and specially in countries which have maybe little bit less personal freedoms also locked away from general public? I doubt that a random poor brianwashed Joe (who for some reason wants to make a suicide with a BANG) in a such country can find/create a bomb without external help from some clever bad guy who in theory stays under the radar?

I didn't comment much on the NZ shootings, if at all. If I did I'm sure it was a pretty generic "that's horrible" type of post.

So let me be on the record, the Sri Lanka bombings were extraordinarily tragic. They happened on a religious holiday in places of worship and took an exceptionally large number of lives. Easter Sunday service is something that I imagine is largely attended by families, so the killers (definitely terrorists) showed absolutely no respect for the lives of children or the possibility of tearing families apart.

@Bulletproof, didn’t you know that the amount of posts on a subject on a small sports message board is the perfect proof for American society and the world at large. Jazzfanz sets the trends for the world. What happens here is paid attention to by world gov., religious leaders and by social, entertainment and environmental leaders the world over.

well i would say that the forum has a number of Australian and Kiwi contributors, we're probably as close as two separate countries can be. You know its good fun giving @ONE LOVE **** for being a Kiwi (Its mostly cause he's a idiot, so well... a kiwi i suppose) but i'd be surprised if you couldn't find an Australian contributor to this forum that didn't have friends or family in NZ and vice versa. (i have both) So i think the interest in Christchurch just due to the membership of the forum is going to be higher.
