With my job, I find myself on the road... a lot. To keep busy and entertained, I ended up buying a tablet. I bought the Nvidia Shield gaming tablet. It's been beyond awesome/badass to have. I love the small size of it along with being able to play games and it is even compatible with a controller. It also came with a stylus and an art program called, Dabbler, but purchasing it had nothing to do with using the art program nor did I even think about it. I took an art class when I was a junior in high school and I was always able to draw while growing up in school, but it's something I haven't really done for a hobby. In fact, the last time I tried to draw anything was 13 years ago other than doodling. One flight I had, for a business trip, I decided to play around with dabbler and came up with some pretty cool looking backgrounds (at least for me. ha) When I landed, I looked into more apps to see what else was out there and I found an app called, Corelpaint. I started playing around with that in my hotel room and practiced using different brushes and layers. It does have a learning curve, but I'm somewhat familiar with photoshop and that helped a lot. After a few hours playing around, I decided I wanted to draw something for my old man for Christmas. I started with corel, but it would crash a lot and I would lose my progress so it was very frustrating, but I think it helped me because I would have start over (I probably lost about 8 hours total on that one drawing from it crashing.) So... I got back on the app marketplace after about a month break (yeah, I was that frustrated with it) and I found another app called, Artflow. My previous attempt for a painting for my old man was a trout chasing a fly. I thought, maybe that would be too much and too hard to do, so I simplified it. I decided to do just a closeup of a fly.

This is what I have now. (I'm going to change a few things today before I get printed on canvas - mainly the red tail and the lines. After my second drawing, I feel I know how to do this a little better and have time to do it today.) Both of the drawings were freehand and I used a very loose reference for both of them.

After I finished that one, I decided to try something different. Simple, not too much going on, and something living so I choose to draw a fox.

I posted these two images on deviantart, which is absolutely awesome, btw, and Nvidia actually contacted me and asked me if they had permissions to use my images for marketing and to be featured in their blog. I thought that was pretty cool and it's motivated me even more to draw during down time. It's a hobby I've depressingly been looking for.

Anyway, does anyone else draw, paint, do digital art, sculpt, etc? If you do do digital art, what apps/programs do you use? Any recommendations or artists/tutorials to follow? Any suggestions on what I should try and draw next? Critiques on what I've done so far? (Yes, I know I'm a total newb at this.) After looking on deviantart I would love to attempt to do a CD cover or book cover.

You're overusing the smudge effect. For the first one, I would have water as the background as it would look better than green on green. The fox's snout to skull ratio doesn't seem quite right. His head is a bit too large and the snout is a bit too short. Other than that, you've done a good job. Keep it up.

Good stuff and advice. Thanks, Siro!

I kept looking at the fox thinking something didn't look quite right. That nailed it.

But they're both very good. Way better than my shaky hands could come up with.

The only thing I can draw is beer...... from a tap.

You > me

I have always wished I could draw

Draw some nudes. Post teh nudes. Change thread title to nude pics

Very impressive Archie!

One other comment about the fox's snout is that the line of demarcation between the white fur and the tan is too sharp - I have no idea what the smudge effect does but maybe it should be used a little MORE in that area - or something to make it look more like hair and not painted on.

That's because of the smudging. He used it to try and blend the two colors into each other a bit, but smudging removes all the details, like the small furs you see on the snout further toward the body.

For a retard.

Since I critiqued Archie's stuff, I decided it's only fair I'll post a few pretentious old photos that I took. Maybe one day I'll even post a couple of drawings. :p

This one in the back of SLC's downtown library.

This is also of the library.

LOL .. after that comment you've gotta show us what you've got Siro!!! Show us your ART!!!

Ever since Siro pointed out the fox's messed up dome I can't help but notice it and wonder how I didn't notice it. As far as the critiques, they're absolutely fine. Like I said, I've done 2 things on this app and I'm certainly no pro so any suggestion, critique, is fine with me.
