The Most and Least Peaceful countries in 2016

No offense, but that list would essentially have been the same 10, 20, even 30 Years ago.

North Africa and the Middle East have heen dangerous for... Oh I don't know... The better half of the 21st and 20th centuries. Imperial European powers leaving didn't fix the economic, educational, and tribally racist slime holes in those areas.

When Europeans colonized those areas, they focused on exploiting the abundant natural resources and exploiting the cheap labor. Often, they promoted racism and tribal warfare to keep the inhabitants divided. I.E. Tutsis and Hutus in Rwanda.

Since they left, those impoverished African countries have lacked the capital, education, and leadership to build up their country's infrastructure and resolve the poverty, disease, and overpopulation which inflicts those areas.

A long-term effort from western powers will be needed to pull those countries out of poverty. To slow down the flow of blood diamonds in Sierre Leon, western powers and diamond dealers joined forces. While it hasn't done much to resolve the poverty issue they've definitely helped to slow the flow of guns for blood diamonds in the region.

Ultimately, some of those countries are destined for perpetual conflict, im afraid. Sudan and South Sudan? Not sure how you fix that honestly... And Syria and Iraq? Good luck. Iraq is a country that can only be ruled by a dictator. It probably actually needs to be divided in 3 ways, Kurds, Shia, and Sunnis.

I am happy to notice that religion in top most peaceful countries is pretty much non existent or is forgotten somewhere very far in the background.

If only Iceland and New Zealand weren't quite so far away . . .

NZ top #4 .... can't say I'm surprise... it IS REALLY peaceful here... but at the same time it can also be pretty boring...

I dunno... which is better? Peaceful but boring VS not so peaceful but exciting??

I will take boring beauty of nature, fishing, hiking and relaxing by the ocean over anything else.

I think anyone who's 35 years and older and is married with/without children would agree with you...

I'm 35 this year and am still single so I guess I'm a little bias the other way....

Finally somebody with some common sense. The West needs to put more boots on the ground and cure world poverty. How can we sit in are plush mansions when this world has photographs of little girls waiting to die as a vulture watches?

I am ashamed of humanity.
We can cure world poverty but we refuse to.
We can end the rapists an murderous Jihadists but we give up.
Some claim we cannot but this is not true.
We need political will to return to this country an to NATO.
We need to stand up for BASIC human rights for ALL peoples not just whites.
That includes listening to an helping blacks in America not just those in Africa.
