The reason I think we may not trade up

So far we haven't brought in any players like Cousins, Favors or even Wesley Johnson that will go higher. If we were considering trading up they would have wanted to see them by now. They have brought in aminu and Monroe who may go earlier but I sure hope they don't trade up to get one of those 2

I believe you are right. That's pretty unfortunate if we end up with a guy like Aldrich. If we do go the Babbitt route then I won't be so displeased. Whiteside is a scary commodity. Anyway, looks like we are sticking with 9.

I don't think Johnson, Favors or Cousins would come to Utah for workouts unless there was a chance they would slip to #9, unless we completed a trade for a higher pick before draft night. If the Jazz have a scout at several of the workouts where Favors, Cousins and Johnson are that might indicate the possibility we might trade up.

There is also a great possibility that we don't have what it takes to move up. Unless of course if we did something foolish like trade DWill. Since that isn't happening. I really think we will be at 9.

Why would someone trade Favors, Wall, Turner, or Cousins for Aldrich and AK47 (or whatever we offered)?

Lets try and empathize for a moment with our opponents. They're trading future allstars if not MVP type players for two role players (one of them misses at least half the season due to injury).

Lets reverse this for a second, think we would have traded Deron Williams for Ike Diogu (the #9 pick that year)? The #10 pick was ok, with Andrew Bynum, but good enough for the Jazz to have traded away Deron Williams? Even in hindsight, think the Jazz would have done that? Doubt it. Bynum as good as he is, ain't no Deron Williams.

Likewise, why would any team ahead of us trade away Favors, Wall, Turner, or Cousins for someone like Aldrich and whatever else we offer? It just doesn't make much sense.

Rarely do teams give up their top 5 draft picks guys, and for good reason.

I agree Thriller. I don't think it is likely, most of the teams in the top 5 are rebuilding and why would you want to give up a potential future all star for what the Jazz could offer in return. The possible exceptions would be teams like the 76ers who want to unload bad contracts like Elton Brand, but I don't think it is likely.

We probably won't move up because.... we can't. If the Jazz give up the 9 pick and a role player, the Jazz could maybe swap with Detroit. Detroit is reportedly also looking for a PF/C and might take Monroe or Aldrich.

Please, Detroit...take Aldrich. He's the one guy I don't want to see in a Jazz uniform.

The one thing you're completely ignoring is finances. If a team can dump a bad contract and trade down, that's certainly a factor that has to be considered. No one is trading for AK the player unless it's the Warriors right now.

It depends on who that team sees being drafted in that slot and whether they can get an equally good player who is a better fit for them a couple spots back in the draft. It's hard to move up more than a couple of slots usually.

Well some of the guys in charge higher up have the tendency to fall in love with players and do some strange things. The obvious one is Golden State with Nellie- no telling what that guy is up to, but Jeff Petrie dances to a different drummer too. I can certainly attest to Sacramento wanting to trade Nocioni also. There's a lot of speculation out there right now, IDK what to think.

Odds are Wall, Turner, Favors, Johnson and Cousins have all turned down opportunities to work out with the Jazz. Though I guarantee the Jazz have gone to some of their workouts just in case a trade does present itself.

I don't think someone trades away the top 3, but Cousins is certainly not a sure thing. I think teams would consider the offers mentioned here for him.
They would probably get Memphis's 1st, our 1st this year, and maybe a player like Koufos. Of course they would look at that.
Agreed about the top three Wall, Turner, or Favors. We'd have to give up Deron for that, but I think Demarcus can be had.
