The Stockton Mountain style Jazz Jersey is "in"

Anyone else noticed that college kids all over the country randomly wear the Utah Jazz John Stockton 'mountain style' jersey? I randomly see it in social media posts. Below are a few examples.

To take it a step further though, there's another jersey that's a Jazz imitation jersey but it says "Fiji" instead and I can't find it online. Anyone know the story with it? Anyhow, I just found it funny.

It's why they must be brought back as the throwback next season!!!
 
College kids, especially frat/sorority kids, wearing 90's throwback jerseys has been a thing for a long time.
 
That girl's Fiji jersey said something like Shiggens on the back, not Stockton.
 
Yeah, jersey parties are huge at fraternities. I oversaw Greek life at a college for a while and they had those parties a couple times a semester. Funny hearing some 20 year old kid try to educate me about Shawn Kemp.

A little off topic but throwback related, I watched a finals game from 1990 between the blazers and pistons last night.
It was so much better to watch than the game today. Not because the players were better it the style was better or the game was better or anything but holy cow it seemed like there were way less whistles. The refs were way less involved in the game. And the players complained about calls way less and didn't try so hard to draw fouls (flop).

Man I wish the NBA could somehow lessen flopping, complaining, and ref involvement.


On another note, I loved the trailblazers back then. Jerome Kersey was one of my favorite players (probably top 5) as was cliff Robinson. Loved Porter and drexler too and even liked Kevin duckworths fat ***.

Makes me wonder how James Harden would fare back then.
 
Harden would torch guys in those days. Think about it - Mitch Richmond was unreal back then scoring loads of buckets. Harden is faster, with 3's off the dribble, with deeper range and better handles than Mitch. There were really only three great perimeter defenders with length in the 90's - Pippen, MJ and the Glove. I still think Harden scores on those guys pretty easily minus Pippen. The game has just evolved that much.

If you can't defend the perimeter at least decently, you can't stay on the floor now. And Harden still scores at will. Just imagine how much he would score on Ehlo, Price, Mark Jackson, Reggie, etc.

They keyword there being "Finals" game.

You were watching the two best teams of that year in a game where the refs always call less fouls (and they use the highest rated refs).

I think you underestimate how big free throws are to his game. Hell, I underestimated it too until I saw that stat someone posted about free throws vs field goals (attempted or made I can't recall). It was insane how much he relies on getting foul calls. Plus he would have more turnovers in that era as his double dribbles and travels would get called more. Plus his plays where he throws his arms up and loses the ball would actually result in turnovers instead of points via free throws.

Sure he would still make lots of threes and be quite good. But he would lead the league in turnovers and wouldn't get nearly as many free throws which is a huge huge part of his game.

And he would still suck in defense and would get bullied way more by physical guys. Plus dudes like Rick mahorn, Charles Oakley and Dennis rodman would have him so scared of contact that he would only shoot threes. He would turn into Reggie Miller. Which is still a really good player but not an MVP.

Maybe.
I have a feeling if i watched a Dallas vs Milwaukee game from the same time period there would be less whistles and complaining too though.

I think we are at an all time high right now.

The most dominant performance I’ve ever seen in-person (by someone other than Stockton or Malone) was by Bonzi Wells.

Just looking at all time single season FTA record, it's a bunch of older era players.

In the top 30 FTA's per single season, only 4 players who played in the 00's appear.

Good point about the free throws, but I think Harden would just blow by most of the perimeter defenders of the era. If they took away the threes and beat him down at the rim, he would stop and just shoot the midrange. The guy has an amazing skill set. MJ made a living off of a triple threat from about 15-18 feet. Harden is doing some of the same stuff but from 25-28.

It would be fun to see Mahorn rip his head off though....
