Who do you Utah natives root for in football?

I've been a die-hard fan of both teams my entire life, and i think they have many similarities and in many ways reflect eachother.

-Both teams are cheered on by devoted fan bases, where they're the most important team within the state (hence, great home field/ court advantage)

-Both teams had incredible regular season success throughout the 90's (I became a fan of both in 1989 when i was 6 years old) Unfortunately, this means both teams choked during the playoffs. They were represented by nationally known stars such as Karl Malone/ Stock and Derrick Thomas

-Both teams failed at quick rebuilds during the early 2000's (Dick Vermeil with Priest Holmes/ Trent Green and the Jazz with Deron Williams)

-Both teams currently face a youth-infused rebuild process. The Jazz are a team with a bright future anchored by their young bigs Kanter and Favors. also promising prospects such as Hayward and Burks. The Chiefs also look to be on the upswing. Young studs such as Jamaal Charles, Eric Berry, Dwayne Bowe, Tamba Hali, and Derrick Johnson.

I know this is an odd post, but thought you guys might find it interesting. What are your thoughts?

New Orleans Saints.

Both had no championships for a while until Saints went and screwed up that connection.

Both are originally from New Orleans.

Both are small market teams.

If he's truly healthy, Manning would fit best in KC imo. Bowe, McCluster, Charles, Baldwin, Breaston. Very, very good weapons behind a very solid offensive line. You put Manning in there instead of Cassell, especially considering they're in a shaky division and they can go 12-4 and make a legit Super Bowl run imo.

Dallas Cowboy fan here. At least they have won some championships unlike the Jazz. The Jazz have at least been competitive most years, while the Cowboys have stunk it up for the last 15 years as far as making the playoffs. We Cowboy fans are starting to be like the Jazz in wait till next year mode.

I to am part of the who dat nation. Too bad the Jazz don't have a drew brees type of stud on their roster.

Steelers/Braves/Jazz fan here....

At one point all three had the longest tenured coaches at one time. All three are now gone.

Braves fan as I watched them after school growing up.
Steelers fan as my pops grew up outside of Pittsburgh and I was born with a Steelers helmet on.

Giants fan myself - I do see the similarities between the Chiefs and Jazz - particularly the rabid fanbases. KC's valleys have been lower than Utah's but then again Utah's consistency has been virtually umatched. Being a KC fan during those playoff collapses in the 90's must have been torture.

If he's truly healthy, Manning would fit best in KC imo.
Joe Montana 2.0?

New Orleans Saints.

One big difference (aside from New Orleans winning the title in 2009) is the Saints were perennial losers before signing Brees. From 1984-2009 the Jazz were one of the league's most stable franchises and made the playoffs in 23 out of 26 seasons.

Football is stupid.

Baseball is almost as bad.

Philadelphia Flyers fan though, and pretty much any team that is playing The Pens or The Sharks.

Amazing...all this time I thought I was the only Utah Jazz, KC Chiefs fan.

Not only do I agree with everything you pointed out, but I'd add that both teams were at their best when running a conservative/"old school" fundamentally sound, "grind it out" type offenses (Jazz: pick & roll, Chiefs: heavily run based offense)

Also, Christian Okoye was the NFL equivalent of Karl Malone...
and John Stockton was the NBA equivalent of Joe Montana.

I see some similarities, aside from the fact KC won a total of 3 playoff games throughout the 90's. Think we had a little more success in the playoffs than that.

I say no because Kansas City sucks. What a crap, no good team. Only thing equally bad or worse are the Pats, Steelers, Chargers and the hated Raiders.

I would have to disagree in that I can't stand the Chiefs.

But did remind me of similarities of my other favorite teams to the Jazz. The Phins had Shula = Sloan and Marino the obvious comparison would be Stock but with the fiery attitudes and scoring I think more Malone. For baseball the Orioles, Cal Ripken can be compaired to both Stock & Malone all iron men, tough no nonsense, blue collar type players.

Hmmm, I try to go for the underdogs or whoever is on my fantasy team. I choose a player I like and root for the teams they are on. Favorite players as a kid, Vick era Falcons, McNabb (before he started to suck) Eagles, Moss on Vikings, Tomlison and Brees Chargers. This year was Reggie Bush on the Dolphins, Tony Gonzales falcons, and Alex Smith on 49er's. I had a blast watching Steve Smith and CAM Newton on the panthers. Teamwise, SEATTLE is my favorite. Most hated players this year is Tom Brady, Manning brothers, Phillip Rivers, and Orton. Probably explained why I only watched 10 minutes of the superbowl.

Utah = Houston Oliers/ Tennessee Titans
Earl Campbell = Pete Maravich
Karl Malone/John Stockton = Warren Moon
Mark Eaton = Bruce Matthews
Deron Williams = Steve McNair
Carlos Boozer = Eddie George

Packers = Spurs/ Small Markets + Stars (Farve/White = Robinson/Elliot in late 90s/ Rodgers/Woodson = Duncan/Ginobli in 2000s) = Championship Success
