No. 4 -- UTAH JAZZ

2009-10 RECORD: 52-29, second place, Northwest Division; lost in West semifinals to Lakers.

ADDED: F Al Jefferson (sign-and-trade deal wih Minnesota); G Raja Bell (three years, $10 million); F Gordon Hayward (first-round pick, ninth overall).

LOST: F Carlos Boozer (sign-and-trade deal with Chicago); G Kyle Korver (signed with Chicago); G Wesley Matthews (signed offer sheet with Portland); C Kosta Koufos (traded to Minnesota).

RETAINED: None.

THE KEY MAN: Owner Greg Miller.
The son of the late owner Larry Miller, who took control of the team upon his father's death in 2009, has been much more willing to spend big bucks to keep the Jazz in the hunt. How long can he keep keeping up with the Cubans and the Busses?

THE SKINNY: The Jazz will tell you that they started planning to lose Boozer last summer when they matched Portland's offer sheet to Paul Millsap, and that rookie Hayward will step right in and take Korver's minutes off the bench, and that Bell is a solid replacement for the departed Matthews. All true. But you still are rocked when you lose three of your top eight players from a team that nearly won its division and had been together for four seasons. Nonetheless, Utah gets its high ranking from an incredible salvage, ponying up for Jefferson's huge (three years, $42 million) contract and assuring itself it will be a luxury tax payer again next season. There isn't a better offensive fit for Jerry Sloan's attack than Jefferson, and I will buy my own ticket to see Bell go up against Kobe Bryant in the playoffs again.

Jazz are always overlooked by the media. They won't know what hit 'em next season. I mean, really, the season will end, and unless the Jazz win the western conference, they'll get no love from the media. Just a fact of life, I guess.

I'm amazed Chicago is ahead of us.

I'm more amazed by this quote: "Now, Rose can have the rock in his hands all he wants, with legit scoring options in the paint and behind the 3-point line (Brewer could really shine in this offense)."

Huh, Brewer is a 3-pt threat? Who knew.

And to think we probably would have been #30 until the Jefferson trade and Raja signing. How quickly things can change!

Good analogy that the #1 offseeason team came up with a straight flush.

And how about that, the #5 team are so ranked in the offseason because they added Jermaine O'Neal.

They added Korver too, thats probably the reference to the 3point line. Though, if they start Brewer and Deng together, they are going to have an almost identical team to Utah. Star PG, 2 hyper-athletic wings who cant shoot well, a soft PF with an excellent high post game. The only difference is they have a shot-blocking Center. But in their starting line only their PG is consistent from 20 feet and out.

Chicago being ranked ahead of us is no surprise at all. The only place on the planet that would not be true is in Utah. There is a lot of kool-aid in Zion right now.

Korver thrived in the Jazz offense, best 3PT % for a season all time. No reason why he shouldn't be a good deep threat for the Bulls too.

The Bulls did have a great offseason. Cant dispute it. They did add alot of Jazzmen, which skews their haul on this forum, but still they got a lot of value with their cap space IMO

It's an Insider. Will you please paraphrase for us? Thanks.

Dont believe he actually mentions the Jazz. It is just the top 5 teams in the offseason who made good moves. Some of this is just a money thing such as the Spurs for signing Splitter to such a cheap deal.

Or we just know exactly what Chicago got in Carlos Boozer. I'm gonna laugh my *** off if he gets hurt at some point this season and misses 20+ games. And how long do you give the Chicago fans before they start screaming about Brewer clanking outside shots? Korver will get a free pass for a while because he looks like a certain actor.

LOL. I'm pretty damn sure they were talking about Korver there, not the Brickman Brewer.
