Taking on a topic with a long history of controversy in Utah, a lawmaker plans to present a bill Thursday that would prohibit schools from teaching teens about contraception.
Rep. Bill Wright’s HB363 would change Utah’s current sex education law, which allows schools to teach students about forms of contraception, though teachers cannot advocate their use. Wright’s bill, however, would forbid any mention of contraception, making all schools choose between teaching abstinence-only or skipping sex education all together, he said.

“When we promote promiscuous behavior it’s the same thing as promoting alcohol or drugs,” said Wright, R-Holden. “It’s a ... habit that leads to the moral decline of our country, and like all these other things, we need to set a standard. If you want to find it, go find it, but we shouldn’t be obligated as a society to collect tax dollars to deliver that information to you.”

The drive of a species to reproduce is easy control. You simply don't talk about it and it goes away.

I honestly have never understood the hookup that Utah seems to have with this.

Promoting promiscuous behavior? Huh?

I just don't understand how a state "so concerned" with freedom and everyone having autonomy while government should be limited and non-controlling, has such strict alcohol laws and is constantly pounding the anti-sex education (that's what she said).

Do other conservative states have this issue too?

And to be honest, I haven't spoken with a single LDS person who supports this type of over-controlling behavior. All who I've spoken to believe that Utah's sex ed is a complete joke. But I guess the politicians are disconnected from the interests and beliefs of the people. Imagine that!!!

Teach the kids the correct principles and they will be their own judges (where have I heard a similar quote? Any LDS person want to help me out?).

If you talk about it in a controlled setting isn't that better than not talking about it and pretending it's not there?
What are the odds every kid's parents are going to talk to them about this stuff?

Go ahead, run away chicken. j/k

What is so wrong with a teacher saying "The method I would prefer you to use is abstinence. However, if you are going to be sexually active, these are your choices"? When will law-makers, school boards, and parents realize the children are getting educated on it from others?

Finally a thread most people can agree upon.
You were bound to get at least one Gameface.
Nice job.

Wow! Thanks, Gameface for, introducing all the moral issues of the day at one time! All you need to do is start a thread about Obama forcing Catholics to pay for the birth control of others against their religious convictions.

All I do is copy and paste hot topics from news articles. It's fun and easy!

This new "5 repz a day" thing is really pissing me off. How am I supposed to get you to zero if I have to wait 24 hours to do so? It doesn't help that your other account is constantly feeding you greenz.

Where I grew up we had sex ed in sixth or seventh grade. We were shown condoms and I became self conscious that I'd never be able to have sex because I hadn't gone through puberty and didn't think my dick would fit in a condom, thus sex could not be performed (at least thats how I recall my thought process back then). I also remember a kid in my class asked the teacher what a coat hanger abortion was and got kicked out of the classroom for the period. Everyone laughed, but no one knew what it meant. I thought it was a sex act and he was being a wise guy. I also thought weed, marijuana and pot were different drugs at that time too (for context of my intelligence level as a 13 year old).

I hope this has helped the thread.

Why does it have to be abstinence only? Oral and anal are also very effective methods, and there's no need to discuss any rubber apparatus.

Problem solved.

I love our Utah Legislature. They are a never-ending source of amusement.

When country singers yodel 'bout "country boys and girls gettin' down on the farm" I'm pretty sure they've left their schoolbooks, and everything said in class, behind. Same as in the projects of south Chicago.

Parents who won't set an example of a good marriage and teach kids about general wisdom and consequences are just as worthless as public school teachers who want to indoctrinate kids or supply paraphernelia for biomechanical political correctness. Either way the kids are wrecked, and will just have to get smart on their own account, if they ever will.

I've heard GF confess that he's worried about people who choose careers that involve being close to kids, and I agree. School teachers who want to talk to teens or pre-teens about sex just make me wretch. There's something pretty kinky about an adult who can't adequately thrive in association with his peers, and particularly one who gravitates to younger and vulnerable kids, or who gets off on "authority". School teachers and cops should be psychologically screened by psychiatric professionals regularly. . . . . And in particular, anyone who thinks public schools are appropriate resources for addressing personal problems is really getting sucked into the whole statist world view. That's why I think we should turn to online education programs rather than classroom, and pretty much ditch the whole education budget. In real life you need to figure a lot of things out for yourself.

So here's my case in point:

Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) Superintendent John Deasy confirmed with Fox 11 News that he has seen some of the more than 400 photos of teacher Mark Berndt allegedly spoonfeeding his ***** to blindfolded and gagged students, some with cockroaches on their faces.
