I'm just curious, what is it worth to a team owner to make the playoffs?

For the Jazz with an average ticket price of $44 (according to Forbes) and a sellout capacity of 19,911 at ESA, that would give the Jazz $1,752,168 in ticket sales alone. I wonder what they make with concessions, parking, tv rights, etc.

It has to be a pretty good chunk of change...

After all those years of making the playoffs you would think they wouldn't be so cheap and go just a little over the cap. Don't ya think?

I think LHM spoke about this a few years ago on the radio and gave numbers of how much they made in regular season games compared to playoffs. I think he said they made a few million in profit for a playoff series (3 games-ish) compared to (I think) 500k-800k per regular season game.

The ticket revenue is a lot, but they'll still likely have some significant expenses.

I got the impression the playoff are almost all profit for the teams. Like unpaid overtime. Plus you have to add the longer term benefits. I imagine season ticket sales goes up. I imagine our corporate sponsorship become better and more lucrative. I am thinking in our small market that our historical playoff success has been the main thing allowing the Jazz to stay semi-profitable.
