VICTORY!!! Government to change policy on "race at birth"

I should have listened to Moe.

1- Within these bodies of "professionals" you have differing opinions. Lets just say you go with the majority... does that mean they are right?
Any argument worth listening to, or following must be based on a principle of truth that is solid and unwavering.
People, Professionals, and opinions change so often that basing your opinion on a consensus is a waste of time.
Unless the opinion of said professional body is based on solid truth, the opinion is not on a solid foundation, and is a waste of time.
2-
Of course not all opinions are create equal. "mine" is always the best one whether you like it or not. Usually you can find something useful in an argument if you try, and overlook the methods used. Of course if you dont care, you have already made up your mind.

3-
You are right. Opinions are not immune to criticism.

4-
Did you pay for the 5 minute argument, or the whole 1/2 hour?

these threads are never complete without vapid pedantry, thanks for filling your niche

One of the best ways to learn is a reasonable, calm discussion. If you're interested in that, I certainly don't see any harm in continuing.

There are no absolutes. Maybe the world really is flat, despite the opinion of a majority of geologists. I'm going with the geologists.

Similarly, when it comes to the reality of the issues of transgendered people, I'm going with the psychiatrists.

Any argument worth listening to, or following must be based on a principle of truth that is solid and unwavering.

The only truths that are solid and unwavering are the truths that result from artificial, arbitrary constructs, like mathematics.

Changing opinions to follow the best evidence, using proper skepticism make sure new ideas are properly vetted, is as good a foundation for empirical knowledge as can be had.

I have been known to change my opinions when presented with reliable evidence or a solid proof. Just from posters on this board, I have occasionally been changed my mind because of something posted by The Pearl, Hopper, JohnDeereJerry, and sirkickyass. I don't think I have the best opinions because they are mine, instead when I see a better opinion, I adopt it as mine.

I acknowledge that I don't recall any time when Beantown has persuaded me in any way to alter my opinion, except my opinion of Beantown. I will allow you to judge for yourself whose failing that is.

I love to discuss, debate, and occasionally even bicker for pages at a time. Call me a two-hour guy. :)

They are also not complete without someone showing off what they think are "big words" to make them look smart, without adding anything of real value.
I usually make some sarcastic comment that adds no value, but I like the big word take too.

Nice job.
