We lost the 8th seed for now

tough loss to swallow tonight and now we are officially 9th seed. AND if both Blazers (vs Hawks) and the Kings (vs Lakers) win tonight, we can fall as low as 10th seed I believe they both own the tiebreaker with us

Would you be okay if we just barely miss the playoff and get a higher pick? I am leaning toward a higher pick now ... but that might just be frustration talking.

Its painfully obvious we just aren't there right now. If we want to try and do anything this year we have to add someone of value.

Those of us that wanted the youth movement have to live through these tough patches. I think we have it mostly right.
I just think this team is missing a leader. Obviously a true #1 player, and closer would be ideal but that isn't happening.
The only way we'll be a major player in the WC is if we are healthy, and players develop. That's the reality.

We are not there because injuries are catching up with us. There are few teams that have more total games missed than the Jazz. And those that do don't have it from their starting PG, PF, C and 6th man. 4 of our best 6 and our 3 best defenders have all missed significant time.

whatever the excuses are, we are approaching a treadmill year. Young, rebuilding organizations that let FA dollars sit on the table because they believe in their pieces shouldn't do that. I'm not going to be a fan who sits back and takes the excuses because (a) they punted in FA, and (b) there aren't systems in place to reliably win close games (healthy or not) -- the most prominent example being the miserable offense we "execute".

Treadmill is the probably the most dangerous word for any franchise, I certainly hope we are not remotely associated with that. Yes we should try to spend to get a true #1, but I am not sure true #1 or even fringe #1 option would sign FA here, so we can hope to draft a later pick that eventually turn out to be a #1 option, like Pacers did with Paul George or Blazers with Lilliard

We are a playoff team with Favors. Without, we are not. It's that simple. If he comes back and we don't lose him, Hayward or Gobert for more than a couple games this season we will make the playoffs with ease.

How are we compared to New Orleans in terms of games missed? They were devastated by injuries - and look at their record!

What a lost season it will be if we don't go 38-44 and get swept by the Warriors.

Either we make top 6 in the playoffs or top 10 in the draft. Anything in-between that is a poor outcome.

I wouldn't call George or Lillard "later picks." Better examples would be Draymond Green, Tony Parker, etc. These are the types of talents DL needs to find in order to build a contender: if he's not willing to "overpay" like KOC did to take chances on players like Boozer and Okur. I'll give him credit for Gobert. Hood? Most of the draft experts had him higher and were pointing out he was sliding. Exum was expected to go #4, so that was a no-brainer pick. But he hasn't yet found a "sleeper" in the 2nd round. Neto is pretty "meh" and took years to even develop into a 3rd-string quality PG (which he is), Hanlan? Trading a pick to get a future, lower second and then one for cash.

Playoffs are pointless unless we get at least the 6th seed.....it'll sure be fun getting that 7th or 8th seed and getting blown out all 4 games

or Tim Duncan and Stephen Curry. Sorry to break it to you but adding Draymond Green wouldn't make us a contender.

We have real trouble scoring the ball right now. Even if Gordon and Hood are shooting well, there just aren't enough scorers on the floor. This drought is likely to keep going.

We can't get one with a lottery pick? What about George over Hayward, Kawhi instead of Burks, Giannis instead of Burke, (or even Draymond Green later in the draft)? The list goes on...players who became stars/all-stars who were available after Utah's pick. I'm not saying KOC/DL should be able to pick EVERY star. But they need to have a couple hit big. That's the difference between contenders and pretenders. Since we likely AREN'T getting a top FA, I think the ONLY chance the Jazz have of becoming a contender is to miss the playoffs and get a top-10 pick (and have DL pick an all-star quality player).

If the draft were to play out like Draftexpress's current mock, the Jazz would hit the jackpot with the 9th pick..

Not to the team right now. We still need a PG. But a team with rotations of Dray, Favors, Gobert and Hayward, Hood, Burks and a legit PG would be. My point was that all-stars and even superstars have been available AFTER the Jazz have picked in almost every draft. just takes an astute GM to spot that potential. Right now I'm just not feeling DL. The ONLY pick that most of us would have missed is Gobert. Every other one was pretty straightforward. And a dart thrown blindfolded would have been just as effective for the 2nd rounders he's wasted.
