What about Millsap?

All I read on here is about how Jefferson has to go because his defense was atrocious which it is. What about Millsap though, his offense was atrocious all series long and during that whole stretch of what was it February? He brings a lot of intangibles to the team, but he is still the same undersized power forward that disappears often whenever he is playing against a team with players that have more height or length than him. He would probably do much better being the sixth man off the bench playing James Harden type minutes, but I do not see that ever happening. Is the choice of who to get rid of really that easy? Personally, I think the team should look into moving both of them, as I think Millsap is too undersized to help the team go far in future playoffs.

Millsap is an undersized PF, who can switch to the SF from time to time. His offense seems to be more affected than his defense actually. Also, the Jazz have horrendous shooting, so teams can pack the paint which makes it even more difficult for him. I like his versatility, and if the Jazz can get him at the right price with the understanding that he may have to come off the bench, then I'm ok with him. He has less of the flaws that Al has on D.

Good post. I agree. I have always been a Paul Millsap supporter. Or, over the shoulder bolder holder, if you will.

I expected more out of him. It's kind of strange to see him disappear like that. There is a small chance he has an injury that he is hiding. I don't know. He missed a lot of easy shots. Im not sure what it is. Maybe he has finally reached his peak. I wouldn't be terribly distraught if he was traded because ultimately I know it's about length and shooting. We could use some more of it.

In my opinion, Jefferson and Millsap should both be moved to the bench no matter if they like it or not.
Neither of them are really clutch often enough, and can't be relied on to be "The Guy" against elite teams.
Both of those guys would thrive off the bench if they just accepted the roles.
Think about it..... two veteran bigs with their type of offense coming off the bench would be pretty unstoppable.
Kanter will be ready next year, and Favors is ready now.

I agree with you, but unfortunately he has never shown any interest coming off the bench. I think he would be a perfect 6th man for the Jazz as he brings a lot of energy and intangibles. Otherwise though, if the Jazz can parlay him into something that can help the team in the future then it is probably best to move him.

I mentioned his horrible play in another thread, but I agree with you. Although I do think he can play off the bench and his contract is such that it would make sense. You could play him as the sixth man and he could play the three or the four which we have already seen... I was really disappointed him this series but he wasn't the only issue.

I will just make a quick list to help others to see if I would like Jefferson or Millsap more

Better defender? Millsap
Slower feet? Jefferson
More hustle? Millsap
Says stupid things to the media before a series is over? Jefferson
Moves the ball better? Millsap
He's big? Jefferson
Better team player? Millsap
Overrated? Jefferson

I know it may seem close but I believe that Millsap has the edge in this battle.

This is not really about if Jefferson or Millsap is the better player. It is more about whether Millsap is a fit on this team for the future. It is not the first time he has disappeared in the playoffs against a team with size and length, for think about all those years we played against the Lakers in the playoffs.

I actually have always enjoyed Millsap being on the team, but I am tired of seeing them being so outsized year after year. Favors is a great example of the difference size and length makes.

I like Millsap too, but I think it's getting to be about that time where we say bench or bye bye. His lack of length is just a problem. Plain and simple. I think we have just about given the experiment enough time to see if it can work. We got to get real about building a championship team. That's if we are serious about contending. We have got to find a way to build a team without big holes. We can't kid ourselves anymore.

Jefferson does need to go too though. I would also say first. But I think in the end we have to replace Millsap too. Whether that be Kanter or not (I hope so) we'll see.

I'd be ok with sending them both packing this year and just throw Kanter and Favors into the fire.

I guess I should clarify. Millsap is the better player, and the player that I want to keep. I will say the same thing that I have said for a while and that is that Millsap is better served coming off the bench. He would provide a better scoring punch off the bench and that could have made a big difference against the Spurs.

I had been preaching for something similar to this last off season. I guess only time will tell what happen. I can't wait for another 4+ months of hoping the Jefferson gets traded and Millsap comes off the bench in favor of the Future of this team.

I agree, and since KOC loves to sign veterans this is the one time out of all the times he signs them that it makes sense to get a solid one that still produces while Kanter is still learning the ropes.

@orangello: I agree that if he would come off the bench that would be the best thing for the Jazz. Hasn't he not expressed an unwillingness in the past to come off it though?

Millsap is the closest thing this franchise has to a core player. Right now, we're hoping some of The Four become that for real. Jefferson is some guy wearing a Jazz jersey that doesn't play Jazz basketball and is in the way. Millsap is Jazz basketball, and his game is built on working with others, and working harder than anyone.

He stays.

I hope Millsap stays and becomes our Udonis Haslem. If he doesn't want that, I hope we trade him at the deadline.

Sap is NOT a core Jazz player, IMO.
He ALWAYS get beat down by bigger teams (which are most of them because he is short), especially when it matters. It drives me crazy to see the "he works hard and tries so hard" tag applied to him as a good thing and an excuse for less than great actual play. Yet in the past, this exact tag was a total knock on Harpring and others who did the same thing but since Sloan liked them, they sucked.
Trade Sap, who might actually be worth more but I highly doubt it, keep Al to come off the bench and just throw Favors and Kanter into the mix. Sink or swim with them. IMO, Al gives us an actual talent off the bench, scoring, where as Sap brings that patented 'hard work'.

Also, if Sap IS Jazz basketball, we will always be a 'hard working' team that lacks the talent and size to win anything.
Love the guy actually, but wow you over rate him so much its incredible.

You're right, Millsap is the closest thing this team has to a core player. Which is why this team got swept by the Spurs.

Millsap is a good player to have, but the Jazz will not contend until he no better that the fourth best player on the team.
