What vodka is best. If other then give me a brand.

Have been meaning to ask someone, what's the appeal of drinking straight vodka?

It's a colourless, flavourless liquid.

I know nothing about vodka and rarely ever drink it.
My wife wants to drink vodka mixed drinks for new years and so I want to get some that is kinda pricey and good. Not top shelf but not bottom shelf Barton or smirnoff either.

Looking to spend around 20-30 dollars.

It has flavor. Horrible flavor. Ever had some hair spray get in your mouth a little when doing you hair as a youngin?

Also they make lots of flavored vodkas. I was at a party not too long ago and someone had whipped cream flavored vodka and it was pretty good.

But I'm going to be making mixed drinks so no flavor is fine in this case. Vodka redbulls and screwdrivers and vodka with strawberry lemonade and **** like that.

I buy whatever handle is on sell at the liquor store that is in glass. I only care about it being in glass because friends wont drink stuff out of plastic. Sometimes I put cheap vodka in old fancy vodka containers for friends who think they can tell the difference between the good stuff and the bad.

The only vodka that tastes better to me than normal vodka is the High West stuff. It has a good flavor. But for the most part vodka is for mixed drinks and it does not matter.

Smirnoff generally gets higher on the blind taste test over top shelf stuff.

I have started drinking flavored vodka sometimes mixed 50/50 with water and think its pretty good. Vodka water surprisingly tastes pretty good, even plain vodka with a lime in it.

You can always tell which Vodka is on the best sell in Utah when you go to a party and everyone brought the same brand. I think the 360 handle is on sell this month and is pretty decent it should be $22 for the handle (1750 ml).

You can check prices or sales on the DABC website: https://abc.utah.gov/products/

Great post. I like that vodka water lime idea.

Back in the day I would mix cheap whiskey with water and it seemed to keep the hangovers at bay.

Skyy is pretty good value and pretty good tasting. I think Absolut is better on pure taste and just as good as Grey Goose. But if you mix any of them it doesn't matter much. Unlike whiskey, which tastes so different from say, Jack to Crown or Bulleit to Woodford Reserve. Belvedere has a really cool bottle especially in the 1.75L. I usually buy a big bottle of Skyy or if the crowd warrants it, Absolut or Belvedere. I've even refilled Grey Goose with Skyy for parties, especially because the bottle looks cooler. What they don't know won't hurt them. Don't try that with bourbon!

My co-workers have echoed what you are saying. They seem to mostly agree that skyy is the way to go.
That's where I'm leaning so far.

As far as not mattering for mixers, I'm certain that I will not be able to resist thre urge to just take some shots or drink from the bottle so I do want it to be pretty good stuff. Sounds like skyy fits the bill.

Honestly as long as it's not the bottom of the barrel stuff you cant really tell that much of a difference.

Yeah I tend to think so too, I bought Absolut earlier this year and immediately regretted it when I mixed it with juice... I just don't think it matters too much once it's mixed, unless it's a real bad one.

My wife if a vodka person. She gets headaches from drinking easily so it's always top shelf. Belvedere was her go to for a long time but she's switched to Kettle One recently for some reason (I assume price).

I can tell a difference. Belvedere and Grey Goose are way cleaner than Sky. The amount of filtration (and type of filtration IIRC) make a huge difference in quality.

Run it through a Brita or other type of filter and it will be the same thing.

lol you guys are funny. When I was drinking vodka I could tell flavors easily. There is crap and there is great stuff. And the only right way to drink vodka is to drink it pure without mixing it with any other liquids. Yeah, you get cocktails and whatever other mixes you get but that is not vodka anymore.

I will be biased but if you every try this you will never want any other vodka. Anytime I would bring this to any party here in Canada locals would be in awe of the smoothness and flavor of this unique vodka which is filtered 4 times through charcoal and gold. Highly recommended.

Well I went to a friends house tonight and he had a gift that was meant for someone else but he said I could have it and save me a trip to the liquor store.

As you can see it comes with a martini glass and supposedly the tree branch engraving changes color when you put cold liquid in it. So that should be pretty cool.

Never had belvedere vodka before and don't know if it's any good.

Best way to drink vodka is to pour it down a drain and drink anything else.

That's cool. Very nice. Belvedere is considered a good vodka. That glass sounds awesome.

Sign of good vodka: can you drink it without wishing you weren't drinking vodka?
