What's the deal with Dallas?

Strange how they win a championship, and immediately have players jump ship all over the place, and the guys they try to bring don't seem to want to be there. This is even more strange given that Cuban is known for treating his players well. Result: Total collapse of the championship team in one season.

Is there reverse discrimination against Dirk ? I'm sure there is more to it than that, but it is a strange outcome.

Well the Mavs only offered one-year contracts to Barea and Chandler to have cap space for this summer. D Will went the money, plus two guys who at one point could have been FAs this summer (Chris Paul and Dwight Howard) opted in. They've only been snubbed by PGs in D Will, Kidd, and Nash, and they'd have had Kidd and D Will if D Will hadn't taken the extra year and money.

....just goes to show ya, money can't buy a championship! You need hip hop appeal...along with tip top stripper clubs....and probably a city that ranks highly in "jailhouse" tattoo parlors! And Dallas ain't it!

It's their fault, they didn't want to extend any long term contract towards their players. Now, they are hurting.

They could have kept JJ Barea, Tyson Chandler, The Jet, but they keep attempting to create their own 'Big Three'

It was a calculated risk that blew up in their face. I'm just ticked because I would like to see Dirk have a supporting cast these next couple of years.

BTW, if Dirk were to somehow drag the carcasses of Delonte West and Vince Carter to the playoffs he deserves another MVP.

Or it shows that it can because all these players (with the exception of Odom) are leaving to get more money.

and how do you explain Odom being a complete bust? When you get all of these coincidences, I wonder if they are all coincidences. We don't know, maybe Cuban didn't offer multi-year deals because he knew some of those guys didn't want to be there.

Dallas DID get one championship.

I haven't looked closely at the situation, but it seems to me Cuban ought to consider trading Dirk for picks and doing a total rebuild,

Cuban had a decision to make. Re-up his title winning players, contend for a year or two, then be in a seriously bad cap situation, or try to semi-blow it up thinking you will get Deron, Paul, or Howard this summer. Paul and Howard screwed him, and Deron decided money was more important.

....they may be leaving to make more money, but that doesn't mean the team they go to will win! Even the Miami guys had to take less money to make that team work. You get enough bad contracts on your team and you will be deep sixed for years....just ask the Knicks!

I really have enjoyed watching whats going on with Dallas right now. I've never really liked Dirk and his attitude towards Utah so I'm glad to see them being burned by some free agents and there own free agents.

They aren't going to trade Dirk. He is their franchise. That would be like the Jazz trading Stockton or Malone.

Nope, they went all in for DWill and I'm sure were hoping he'd be able to bring Howard along with him since at one point, they seemed joined at the hip. It was a calculated risk by Cuban - and he lost, to the Russian mobster. Guess this round goes to the new CBA. Brooklyn being able to offer so much more is ultimately what swayed Deron's mind. And giev the Nets credit as well; they knew they had competition and decided to put as many good players around Deron as they could. So when negotiations weren't happening with Orlando, they brought in Johnson. I'm sure Prokhorov doesn't mind paying the luxury tax for a year or two...or five. And utlimately, they'll probably still wind up with Howard

Money and loyalty. Come on.
