Which positions?

Let's assume we get a lottery pick this year (how decent is yet to be seen). Hopefully a difference-maker.
Let us also assume the Jazz have the $$ to pick up one high-end free agent who also is a difference-maker.

Given the state of our youth right now which two positions do you think management needs to target with these two additions?

My vote is the 3 and 4 spots assuming we are going to keep playing Favors at the 5.

Stretch 4 who can guard the post too.

iawtp fwiw.

And a SF that can keep the defense honest, and defend appropriately.

Put that together with a grown Favors, Burke, and Hayward and we're right where I want to be.

YMMV, but that's a top 4 team if we keep Kanter/Burks as a solid core off the bench.

AFAIAC, the WB can backup both those spots perfectly if we land AW or JP and pick off a true stretch. Kanter is OMOITS and trade bait.

Outside of point guard and backup point guard, we could fit any other position in. Even Point Guard could be a need, depending on how Burke continues to develop, and if Neto works out or not.

We need a wing player. He has to be an All-Star. That is obvious. We also need a Center. Favors isn't one and neither is Kanter. Then we need a backup big (unless you decide to let Kanter do that) and another backup wing player.

I want Marvin back. If you are Utah, you talk to him, see what he wants, and if he wants to stay and the price is right, keep him. If not, move him now, while the price is high.

We need an elite two-way wing, two 3&D players, and a backup PG.

The tank is supposed to get us the elite wing.
You'd hope the GSW pick would get us one 3&D.
I don't think we'll sign anybody beyond the caliber of the second 3&D guy.

I know Rush has looked like a pile of **** so far, but doesn't he have great potential to be a formidable 3&D guy for us?

Backup PG would be the easiest hole for us to fill, IMO.

I say we are only an elite-scorer, a very good third big, and a backup PG away from contending, pending that our team becomes top-10 defensively.

I'm choosing to ignore Rush's existence. It feels like an enormous stretch to imagine (1) that he'll return to the form he had for ONE YEAR of his career, and (2) that he'll re-sign with us rather than go to a more obvious winner.

Yes, backup PG is definitely the easiest.

I'm pretty convinced that in order for us to become a top-10 defense we need two 3&D guys. Our perimeter is porous as ****.

EDIT: I'm also assuming we have a decent third big in Gobert and/or Evans.

Best player available, but I would love to get a skilled big center so Favors can play his natural PF position.

I was thinking of 3rd big along the realms of 2011 Darrell Arthur. Can space the floor, explode for lots of pointage, and plays well within a team-concept. Doesnt need to be a "stretch-4" necessarily. If Jeremy continues to improve his shooting, then I would have high hopes-- I'd just prefer for our third big to have a a skill-set that is different from our two starting bigs (I'm scared that Gobert's skill simply overlaps with that of Favors-- although we definitely haven't seen nearly enough from him ).

Really tho, a better version of Marvin, Rush, and Jefferson would be nice, and perhaps a physical post defender to be the opposite of Gobert/Evans.

The back up PG may already be filled next year when Neto comes over.
