Looking at our point guards right now, you get the idea that they are playing for the role of the backup. It's going to be interesting to see how the pg rotation unfolds during the end of this season and start of next. I assume that Exum is going to be the starter next season, he'll have had plenty of time for recovery so he should be good to go, even being rusty. We have a few candidates for back up now:

Shelvin Mack: The new kid on the block. He's shown capacity to be an average pg, not great, not terrible. He offers a bit of defense and the ability to score in spurts. He has had trouble with turning over the ball.

Raul Neto: The rookie. He's done a decent job playing wherever Synder wants him to. He can make some plays, he's shot the ball decently, it would be pretty big if he kept his 3pt percentage.

Trey Burke: The shooting guard. I still have some faith in Burke. He really showed improvement this year before February. Now he's fallen a bit out of the rotation. His defense is still scary bad, but he's done a decent job at being able to score off the bench. He's even shown some nice passing ability too.

so far this is how I see our roster next year (of importance):

Exum
Hood/Burks
Hayward
Favors/Lyles
Gobert

We really need to improve the bench, but this is looking like a solid team!

I went with Mack. If he and Neto continue to improve they can play behind Exum. If we bring in a vet PG they'd need to move Mack or Neto and I can't see that happening (especially Mack as he's Snyder's darling and Neto has been playing solid).

Though they could bring in a combo guard.

Burke is as good as gone and I hope DL can make a solid trade (it doesn't help Burke isn't getting playing time, I know).

If we bring in a vet PG Lindsey would need to spend a lot of money and I can't see that happening.
Fixed.
Mack was brought in to entice Gordon to stay. His spot is 100% guaranteed next year. DL traded up for Neto, so he stays too.

Ingles is around as a mentor for Dante. So, really, the Jazz only have 2 roster spots: Booker is an UFA and Johnson. One has to go to make room for the Jazz' 1st round pick. Then it's just a contest between Johnson, Graham and any 2nd rounders for that last wing spot.

Probably Mack, but I could see Neto taking over the back up position in time; he's got decent potential.

I picked a vet. I don't want 45-48 wins next year. I want 52+. And to get there, we'll need to upgrade wherever we can including the backup pg spot.

There's also the possibility that we draft a PG. Wayne Baldwin is projected to be in our range. Or maybe we trade up for Jamal Murray(!) who will probably see time at both the 1 and 2.

Mack.

Although I could see a big trade happening this off season.

Exum, mack, neto
Hood, Burks
Hayward, free agent, Ingles
Favors, Lyles
Gobert, Withey

You thinkin' Shelvin Mack big?

Tyler Ullis
or Kay Fielder( another pint size point and who is way more explosive then Ullis and I think he turns into a better pro)

Both going be good backup change of pace guards in the league. KAy Fielder you might even see in the Dunk Contest, He has the Nate Robinson type hops.

It's possible, but if that happens I think the rookie would be third string and see d-league time. I don't know how possible it will be to trade up either.

I mean, like Lindsey said last offseason, I'm sure the FO will be monitoring the production at the PG spot, and they have the assets to make a move if they aren't getting good production. So, yes, obviously we'll go big. Again. If necessary. BIG.

The cake tho

There's just something about Mack that draws me to him. I don't see him in the bad light that many of you do. I think with most players, he's feeling out his teammates and he's only going to get better.

Neto has been pretty good off the bench too. Provides some good defense, passing, and a bit of scoring.
