Why are the Jazz wasting a roster spot on Marvin Williams?

Marvin is going to sit out the first half of the season (which only Jazz training staff and management would allow him to get away with) and contribute absolutely nothing to the Jazz in the second half of the season. They should have never traded for him and just kept Devin Harris who would at least helped this team in a small way. Typical bad move by Jazz management not learning from the Raja Bell situation which is players that are washed up should only be given a one year deal to prove themselves or bypassed all together.

What? When the trade was made, Marvin wasn't "washed up", and I think most agreed it was a good gamble to trade Devin for Marvin, even with the extra year on his contract. Every team in the league allows injured players to sit out games.

Yeah but now the Jazz are handcuffed into keeping him and his $7M another season. I just think it's a shame that once this offseason is over this is all that they have to show with the free agents that they had.

You also have to consider what we could potentially get at the Trade deadline and absorb some of the contracts with our cap space...

I bet your mom droped you as a baybe, and guessing you didnt bounce back up.

I want Carroll, Foye and Tinsley back with this team. They also have to bring in a veteran point guard to start with Burke backing him up and Tinsley being the third string to make this offseason acceptable.

Agreed. Most here thought it was a good idea. Maybe a change of scenery was needed. He wasn't a focus there in ATL, etc.
He had a good pre-season, and decent start to the season. Then the wheels fell off...

Ok genius, why don't you tell me what you expect from Marvin this season?

Not much.

Listen buttmunch, it's not like the jazz are having cap issues. Even with Marv, the jazz have as much or more cap space then anyone in the league. Further more, it's not like jazz brass are even trying to put a winner on the court this year anyways.

This guy.. 20 million in cap space must be nickels and dimes to you.

lol yeah. I wouldn't say we're handcuffed by keeping him in any way. Our cap has to be at around 50 mil otherwise we have to give the league money, and we don't want to have a lot of 2+ year contracts on the roster right now because we'll need the space to sign Favors and Hayward next year.

I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt for now. If he was playing injured then of course he isn't going to produce much. As for him being better off the bench, you can't start everyone, some guys have to come off the bench, and if he can produce similar numbers to Millsap (whom he is actually taller than) for only seven mil -off the bench- (looking at you Millsap) than I think that's a win.
