Why is Utah not in trade talks instead of Denver?

Lakers, Magic Talking Dwight Howard Trade With Nuggets, Sixers
Aug 09, 2012 12:43 PM EDT
The Lakers and Magic are again discussing a trade involving Dwight Howard, according to sources.
The two teams are also involving the 76ers and Nuggets in trade talks. Talks have been ongoing for several days and are substantive even though no agrement is close.
The deal would send Howard and Al Harrington to the Lakers, Andre Iguodala going to the Nuggets, Andrew Bynum to the Sixers, while the Magic would receive Pau Gasol and Arron Afflalo.
Orlando could trade Gasol in a future trade to receive additional assets, whereas the team runs the risk of losing Bynum in free agency in 2013.
The Magic would also acquire draft picks and cap relief.

With Utah's very tradeable assets of Millsap and Jefferson, their good history of tradinng with Philadelphia, and a division rivial in play, I'm surprised Utah isn't potentially in the mix of this trade for AI instead of Denver.
With Jefferson: https://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=8tjuawh

If that trade goes down, killer trade for everyone but ORL.

EDIT: I'll admit...When I read the trade proposed I saw both Bynum and Gasol in it but somehow it didnt register until a few minutes after I posted that LA would be giving both up for Dwight AND taking back Harrington. I thought about going back and editing but didnt think anyone read my posts anyways.

Glad to know I am relevant in the trade analysists discussions and now I would officially liked to be on record stating that this would not be a good trade for the LA water guys.

Send millsap to LA? Don't like that at all. Even if we got iggy. And I don't see Orlando wanting Jefferson and gasol. We don't have a 2 guard like afflalo.

We could do a millsap wAtson and bell for iggy straight up. Philly needs a pf.

Or Jefferson to Orlando for big baby and redick.

But being part of this trade doesn't make sense.

Raja is just a placeholder. You actually don't need him for trade to work. I wouldn't give up any of Utah's Young 4, but everyone else is available. Both Jefferson and Millsap are better than Harrington, so the Lakers would obvioulsy prefer Utah being the trade partner. If Millsap won't sign an extension or give Utah the assurance that the Jazz are his top choice, then I would trade him over Jefferson. Jefferson will still be a free agent at the end of this season (no harm there) and a starting frontline of AI, Jefferson, and Favors is as good if not better than Millsap, Favors, and Jefferson. AI is also signed for this season and next, albeit at an expensive $15m, so one less free agent to deal with.

Who says the Jazz aren't involved in trade talks.... on multiple fronts including this one?

Why?

Because KOC is on vacation at the beach in South Carolina, and DL, aka Mr. Analytics, is back in San Antonio finishing up some work for the old boss, packing his house, and telling his crying wife that Utah isn't really that bad.

I'd pitch it as "Think of all the sister wives we can get to help you around the house. You'll be able to fake all the headaches you want and kick your feet up everyday!"

How will she ever be able to leave the hustle and bustle of San Antonio behind?

He couldn't get along with his coach, thinks he a super hero and has never won anything on his own. No thanks.
We already got rid of one talented diva. Let's not bring another one to town.

How is getting rid of Gasol AND Bynum a good thing for the Lakers? That's a wash in the very best scenario for them(Dwight beasting for the next 10 years and Andrew Bynum's knees going Greg Oden). I don't get what they're doing, other than securing a superstar linchpin for the post Kobe era.

I've got all Laker fans in my phone on standby for a mass trash talking text message if that deal goes down.

There is also this:

Source confirms that ORL, LAL, PHI and DEN have discussed four-team deal. However, source warns it's "one of several deals being discussed."

and this:

I know you're all sick of hearing this, but source close to four-team talks says that "nothing is imminent." Will the Dwightmare ever end?
