Woman gets 10 Years in Prison for Selling $30 Worth of Weed in Oklahoma

Where are you getting 12 years from?

Apparently she was dumb and brought a bag of weed with her to court and they tacked on another two years. Stupid, but if stupidity was a crime then most of this country would be in prison. That being said, since that would technically make it 10 years for one bag instead of 12, I will amend the title. Doesn't make it any less of a bizarre travesty of justice.

Although I want to say she has no one else to blame but herself, there's no justifying that sentence. Might as well ruin her entire life and make us pay for it.

Well, we have to lock her in a cage for more than a decade, for the kids...

LOL :D.

its illegal to have some leaves. growig from a plant.

going to jail for 10 years for some plantleaves. NICE. whats next exeeding the ammount of oxygen you're allowed to use per day. going to jail for 25 years?

As if I didn't need another reason why I pray to the heavens each day that I don't live in that state.

Stop selling drugs and get a real job then.

I guess I'm the only one who finds this awesome. She can't use my tax dollars to buy drugs now. HAHAHAHAHAHA.

Pretty rough sentence. Kind of odd that the prosecutors would even offer 2 years of prison time as a plea... seems like probation would be in order, but guess that's Oklahoma.

My wife and I had 3 kids at 25 (twins and a little one) and they are not parasites. Don't judge the kids because the mother has issues (and her 1st conviction). It's not like she didn't have a job. Read the article.

I would neg rep ya (again), but can't until I spread around some more rep 1st. Something for you to look forward to.

You're comparing a married couple to a parasite who has four kids with most likely, mutiple different fathers. My comment wasn't directed toward you, so if you took any offense then that's your problem.

You assume a lot with your blanket statement.

1- Define parasite (in your use of the word)
2- Please reference some facts that show there are multiple fathers.
3- Where does it say she is not married?

She can't have anymore parasite children in jail. Four kids at 25? People like her can't control themselves. That and they want more welfare/food stamps/disability/whatever.

Well if she was making money selling drugs maybe she wasn't on welfare. But now that she is in jail her kids probably become the state's problem. I don't see how putting her in jail would save the state any money. If he had a 2 more kids on welfare that still be less than what it would take to arrest, prosecute, and jail her for 12 years.

"The cost to house an inmate in a public, medium-security bed is $44.35 a day, compared with $49 for a bed in a Corrections Corporation of America lockup and $44.83 for a bed in a GEO prison, Corrections Department figures show." https://www.tulsaworld.com/news/article.aspx?subjectid=16&articleid=20091021_16_A11_OKLAHO205716

so 16k(and rising) a year to just incarcerate her for 30 bucks worth of weed. Well done Oklahoma.

I realize you're just trying be a dick and do your internet thing; but the article clearly states she was gainfully employed at the time of her arrest.

Dude, you don't even have a clue. Lets say she's bringing in the maximum amount of welfare per month, 650$. (More likely if she was on welfare she was only bringing in 100$ per month). The cost to maintain a prisoner in a state prison is (and I"m being conservative) is 30,000 a year. So before, she was costing the state 7800 dollars per year (if given your argument that she was a welfare parasite) and now she's costing the state 30,000 a year. Lets say she serves 6 years in jail, and when we do the math, our "save the children" government has cost the tax payer 180 grand. As opposed to the 47 grand that person on the welfare system would have received over that span.
And lets not look over the cost of moving her children into a foster home and all thats associated with social services. And if we really want to be in depth, lets look at the percentages of crime committed by children who have had a parent in jail. There could be potentially another 200 k the comes with this one stupid piece of legislation.

All for a crime that is victimless. Over a drug that is about as dangerous as really hot mustard, but probably less because some people are allergic to mustard.

I mean, damn Sloanfeld. Do some research, read a few articles... go to college.

No, you and a bunch of other stupid hicks also find it awesome too.

You have different statistics then me, I was using a figure I read in an article a while back. Yours are probably more accurate. But I would imagine the cost of being close to 30 k a year, when you calculate everything associated with the legislation.
