It would never happen. Why bring him back as an assistant? Wasn't he making north of 5 million as HC? If you are going to pay him millions of dollars to be a bench coach, why not get rid of Ty and just put ol' Jer back in as the dude?

You all know how this is going to end: after every loss, someone will come on JF calling for Ty's head so Jerry can be the HC again. It's a decent idea, but it would be pretty strange.

Sloan might perfer a assistant postion at this point in his life. He could be Ty's Phil Johnson.

Maybe do what the Lakers were going to do with Phil:

Sloan's teams have never been good on the road anyways, so just have Sloan coach the home games, let Ty do the away games.

That being said, I like him as a consultant better at this point. The last thing I want is for Sloan to come back, get the most out of a rag-tag band of crappy players, finish one game out of the playoffs and waste another year.

The best thing the Jazz can do is keep Ty, sink or swim with the Big Three and Burks, and if they stink, draft your future superstar. If they make the playoffs, draft a great role player and try to sign/trade for another All-Star.

Why would Sloan degrade himself? He is a HOF'er and Corbin is the worst coach in the NBA. Sloan is a proud guy. If we had Poppovich instead of Corbin then yes, Sloan might accept it. I'm all for getting Sloan back as a HC if it means Corbin will be gone.

No. He deserves more respect than to work under Ty. Give me a break.

Yes. It would certainly mean Ty's final demise.

No. It may mean Sloan takes back the head coaching reins... and I just want to give Jerry a big thank you and move on.

Yes. The board would be FULL of nonsensical speculation that would provide me months of entertainment.

No. Make Jerry the OWNER of the Jazz, instead.

I'd rather stick with Ty and suck than be fairly decent with Sloan. Ty can at least help us stockpile the talent to be a contender, Sloan will always be good enough to not win it all.

Purty much

Consider: last season, when Al Jefferson was not on the floor, the Jazz played excellent defense, to the tune of a 100.8 Defensive Rating. That total, if continued for the whole season, would have made the Jazz the third best defense in the league, just behind the Indiana Pacers and Memphis Grizzlies. Should Jefferson not return to the Jazz next season, the Jazz’ defensive woes may already be solved.

This is the best part of the whole article. Jazz will be a playoff team next year just because of how much better we will be on defense. No way we are a top 5 lottery. Too much talent. Been saying this for awhile.
I know Corbin is bad but the defense will be good next year. The offense is very very suspect and same goes for the rotations, but we almost made the playoffs with a HORRIBLE defense because of Jefferson and Millsap together.

What's the point? If Ty couldn't learn from Sloan when he was Sloan's assistant, what could he learn now if the roles are reversed? Makes no sense.

This is like asking if I would like KD to come off of the bench for the Jazz. Sure - that would be great. But it isn't going to happen. No way on earth Sloan becomes an assistant. Wouldn't work for him or Ty

Why bring on a guy that we knew was no longer the solution at headcoach in an assistant coach position? Placing your old boss (who held your position for over 20 years) under you is just asking for trouble.

I do not mind Sloan giving Ty pointers and working with Ty a little bit but I do not want Sloan back in any coaching position. It is time to more forward not backwards.

Defensive ratings when Al Jefferson is off the court is inherently inaccurate. We had one of the best benches in the league last season-- also, Al Jefferson rarely played with the bench. So, while Al Jefferson is pretty much facing the opposing team's best players ~99% of the time, our good bench is matching up against squads which, more often than not, paled in comparison.

So yes, our bench was good defensively in comparison to those of other teams-- however, we shouldn't assume that our bench would maintain the same 'defensive rating' while playing against an opposing team's best players.

Losing Jefferson will obviously help our defense-- but we are all delusional if we think that subtracting Jefferson from the equation will make us the 3rd best defense in the league.

The only way we will ever become a top 10 defensive team (with our young core it is definitely possible) is through proper coaching, and implementing a good defensive system that suits the strengths of our players. Otherwise, we have no chance
