I generally prefer my music deep in the underground. I don't typically like rap as a genre, but there are some whose talent is just too huge to ignore, both mainstream and underground. As far as subterranean, I like most of the artists in the Grand Unified collective (Tombstone Da Deadman, Greydon Square), a bunch of Nerdcore artists (MC Frontalot, Schaffer the Darklord, MC Lars, Optimus Rhyme), and the Streets. Del's delivery can be kind of an acquired taste, but Dan the Automator's production is so ****ing good. Everything that man touches is solid gold.



Just started listening to Aesop Rock, it's pretty damn nerdy lol.

I personally like Afroman's songs and vocals. I enjoy how he sings his songs 3 times to sound like 3 different people singing in harmony.


I am not a big Drake fan but he has some songs that are well known for his vocals including this one that one some awards.


I really tons of Rage against the Machine that is rap rock. There are a bunch of others in this category.

Others you could listen to are: Frank Ocean, Sleepy Brown, TJ Swan, Notorious BIG, Kendrick Lamar, Lil Mama, Lauryn Hill, and many others.

I liked Chance the Gardener more than Chance the Rapper.

Rage against the machine is not rap rock. They do zero rapping.

What makes it rap/metal? What do you consider rapping?

I think that it may have a hint of rap. Maybe saying zero isnt correct. But its so little I dont think you can say rap/metal like its a 50/50 mix. I dont think you should even use rap to describe it if you only get two words for it.

When RATM came out with their cover of “The Ghost of Tom Joad,” I first thought it was “The Ghost of Tom Jones,” which would have been much cooler.
 
I don't know if this comment adds value to the discussion in any way, but opinions to the effect of "this entire genre of "music" is not music." and "The old stuff is way higher quality than the new stuff." are invalid or, at the very least, the burden of proof to support these opinions are so high, under actual scrutiny, that it should be nearly impossible to make any headway in any real argument. The real problem is that everybody and their dog has at least one of these opinions. They're so goddamn prevalent. It's country music that and a lot of old white people hate Rap and all old people hate all new music. Everybody has this opinion about Kpop, I swear. Nobody has to like anything, but respect and acknowledgement should be prerequisites for any serious discussion. Rap? is that even music? Yes, yes it is. More people agreeing with you is just more people having poorly reasoned and very ignorant opinions. "Newer music" is the next generation's classics. They'll inevitably get old (ish), turn around and **** on future's music. Foreign language music? ah hell no. I can't even understand the words!!! That's not music. Yes it is and much of it is damn good too. You're just arbitrarily limiting yourself to what you already like. A lot of it is just familiarity and it's very similar to unfamiliar foods. If you can't grow to like or at least, appreciate something that is, in fact, delicious or quality music outside of your chosen genre you have a personal problem, a weakness.
