Kanter 30 Pts and 16 Rebs... And Now the Rest of the Story...

it is not about being with kanter or without kanter. It's about how okc has so many injuries. After Ibaka and Roberson with Adam's hurted hand OKC lost their best d players. Defense is not about one player it's about team and Kanter at least doing 1 or 2 block against team like hou,mem vs...

Nothing worse than a hurted hand tho.

Right, so +/- is only a useful stat when it supports your point, I suppose. LOL, whatever Jazz fans. You want to make yourselves feel better about losing a 22 year-old who never played college ball, is averaging 20/10, and will likely get better defensively over time, go for it. I hope that helps diminish the sting from season after season of players leaving and rebuilding.

I don't think anyone ever doubted he can be 20/10 player in the league. I personally am a bit surprised that he's been able to do it right now, so fast, but even with that, he's still a negative to his team. The question with Enes was never about whether or not he can put up numbers. He can do it without a question. The question was always - can you win with him and is he worth what he's about to get in the summer? That I think is much more debatable.

The beautiful thing is, nobody really has to say anything to help diminish the sting. The 16-8 record and historically good defense since trading Kanter took care of that perfectly. ;)

I also like to use the OKC record against winning teams since he was on OKC, the points per 100 possesions with him on the floor and contrast that to what the Jazz are doing.

But hey, that just me.

OKC record vs Western Conference contenders this year is "maybe 2-15" according to OKC beat writer Darnell Mayberry, he didn't have the stats on hand but they can't be that far off.

Kanter probably is the worst defensive player in the NBA. An argument can be made that center is the most important position for defense (look how many DPOY went to centers) and Kanter is probably the worst defensive center in the NBA.

Kanter has all the tools to be as good defensively as Omer Asik or Jusuf Nurkic (potential that he will likely never reach). However saying Kanter cannot improve whatsover on defense at 22 years old is being naïve.

Historically, offensively talented big men that are piss poor defenders don't ever improve their defense as their careers go on. See Carlos Boozer, Carmelo Anthony, Al Jefferson, Kevin Love, etc... I don't think Kanter will be an exception.

Steve Novak might be a worse defender. But at the center position it's possible Kanter is the worst. Our at least the worst that gets lots of minutes. Has Kanter ever gone to P3? Seems like he was always injured every offseason. Seems like maybe they could help him.

Lamarcus Aldrige, Pau gasol, Blake Griffin, Zach Randolph?

Where did anyone say he won't improve.

What I am seeing is people saying he is horrendous and at this point even being pure crap on D is an improvement.

Kanter's man defense and post defense is not horrible. He might even be average there. The biggest problem with him is when he has to defend in space, defend the PnR, rotate, etc. pretty much every time he has to think and react to something that's happening around him, every time(not literally, but very often) he has to read a situation and make a quick decision, he gets lost... This is a problem with BBIQ and it's generally really hard to correct...
