What's new

Trade - Kanter and Burke for Isaiah Thomas and TJ Warren (proposed)

I may be wrong, but I almost think Kanter may just thrive coming off the bench. There's less pressure to live up to and Kanter just may find he prefers less pressure while beating up on backups. No doubt he can see Rudy's impact on the team, and even though he'll probably be somewhat disappointed at first, he'll still be getting his minutes. If the team is winning like this, I think Enes will be fine with it.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the cap possibly going up this summer?

Won't Kanter's contract start next year?

Projected 5 million next year and 20 million in 2016. Any contracts signed before 2016 will be before the big jump. Some people think he could take the QO so that he could be a UFA in 2016 when the big jump happens. That's a possibility, but I don't think he'll gamble on getting injured.

It's also about timing and not making moves out of impatience or desperation. I think Utah would move Kanter for the right deal, but they aren't going to just dump him for whatever they can get because of an offer he may never get, or because they want to make a playoff push from the 3rd worst record in the west. To be honest, Phoenix is in the 8th spot and they still probably won't make the playoffs, due to a very tough west. It's that tough this year.

As far as Kanter getting a huge offer in the offseason, I don't think it's a given. Teams don't go after RFAs unless they feel they have a good shot at not getting matched. The Hayward match is still fresh in their minds, and they know they're going to have to overpay to keep Utah from matching Kanter. They may not want to have their money tied up in a player they probably won't get, when there are other players to pursue. Hard to say for sure, but I don't think it's a given that Kanter gets a huge offer.

I don't hate Hack's idea by any means, and he makes some good points, but I agree with this post.

There's a strong possibility we get Kanter at a good price. It's not exactly like it was with Hayward. He was already the best player on the team during his contract year, and putting up better numbers than what Kanter is now.

Kanter is averaging 14/7 with a PER of 18. Not bad, but has anyone ever been offered a max contract after putting up those type of numbers?

Kanter is averaging those figures in just 25 minutes a game, and against starters for the most part. If we move him to the bench, keep his minutes about the same, factor in gradual improvement to his game, and he could be putting up even better numbers (especially since he'll be playing against other teams' benches). Maybe he becomes the best bench big in the league? Having a trio of great bigs worked well for the Lakers.

Pretty sure it jumps in 2016. So Kanter can get offered a max of $15M with 4.5% increases. The risk we'd take is having a team structure a deal like Hayward's, with an opt out after 2-3 seasons. Kanter risks very little in that scenario, as one would think he keeps improving and is offered a much better contract under the new cap.

I get what you are saying about "letting him walk for nothing." But really, is a late 1st or a 2nd that valuable an asset? DL bought a 1st two years ago. And seconds are pretty worthless. I think the FAR GREATER risk is letting Kanter go for a pick, then having him continue to develop into a good or very good starter over the next 4 years with another team.

Certainly shop Kanter, but only trade him in a package that nets us AT LEAST a starter in return.

That's not my point. I'm not saying how great Thomas is. Im trying to point out its a possible and a plausible deal. And as I explained adds a certain unique flavor to our team that could make us really good. I already gave my comparisons to JJ Barea. Do you disagree that Barea was instrumental in that championship run for Dallas? If you do, it means you weren't watching.

You haven't even digested what I originally said. Go back and read it, and think about it. Small can work, and can be a weapon. We have Exum, he will still be the main guy, but not til later, and Thomas will play backup. At 6 mil, it's a good deal.

I read your post and agree with you that J.J. Barea stepped up and took care of business. He went from 5.8 ppg during the postseason to 8.9 ppg (2011 postseason) But as far as the Jazz having a shot at making a playoff run this year, I have to ask you, after the Mavericks playoff run 3 years ago have you watched any basketball at all? The Jazz don't have a chance at even making an attempt at a playoff run, not even close. The best we can do is whoop their but and spoil their expectations. Whether small can or can not work is irrelevant, We don't have a "weapon" left, you are given one at the beginning of the season and we have been out of bullets for a month.

I can't imagine the Suns ever wanting to do this. They just signed Thomas for a reason and Warren is young and talented. The only way I could see it is if Thomas becomes a malcontent and Kanter's three point shot shows improvement.

Guess what folks...

Phoenix WANTS a 3 point guard line up. They paid good money to get it. When Horney plays the 3 guard line up they win... a lot! It's a dynamic group and they close out the games. ALSO they want to play fast. ie faster than any other team in the league if they can. They want to run up and down the court. They just traded a first round pick for Brendan Wright to be their Center. Thin, lanky, and fast. FAST!

Kanter is the OPPOSITE of what Phoenix wants. The ball goes to him and he is a BEAST. Strong. Tough. Skilled. That's Kanter. But Phoenix trading speed (Thomas) for Slow and tough (Kanter) is NOT going to happen. So put away your pipe dream for Thomas... unless we are trading them Exum and Evans. Speed and agility.

Except Brendan Wright is just awful. . .It's not like he is a piece that they are missing. And with the age of the players they have acquired, what you see now is pretty much what they are going to get. Only Len has much upside left.

LOL. Brandan Wright is actually very, very good this year, all things considered.

Wrong again

Wrong again
He did say if the team is WINNING with kanter coming off the bench, that kanter would be ok with it.

Jazz are not winning alot with kanter coming off the bench (don't think kanter has even came off the bench yet) imo, so he technically was not wrong since his theory never had a chance to be tested

You know that any trade involving the suns we are going to have to give up Elijah Milsap. They can't help but have the crappy brother of a good NBA player.

Robin Lopez
Luke Zeller
Taylor Griffin
Markus Morris
Zoran Dragic

I'm sure they are still pissed that they couldn't pry Jarron Collins away from us years ago.

We will include the future draft rights to the ****ty Plumlee that is at Duke right now and whichever Harrison twin they think is worse.

Are you saying Booker > Kanter? Or not worth the money he'll be due soon? Because Kanter seems to have serious potential. Don't let the recent defensive sensation of Mr. Gobert blind us from the ability Kanter does potentially have. He's been injured, but when he's on -- it's a sight to see.

I got a little high just now, so maybe I'm wrong.
I'm keeping myself occupied w/this:

Lol you always seem to be playing that game

I'm not against this trade, I think IT would be fun to watch, and I like the story behind him being the very last pick in the draft.

If I were DL, I'd be exploring the hell out of trades for Kanter. I understand the motive. It's your **** trade idea I have a problem with, and the fact that you think we'd have a potential playoff team THIS YEAR by adding a no-defense midget and rookie. Hilarious.

Tell me, in an all-time fantasy draft, where would you select Isaiah Thomas??

Oh wow.

See this is why you shouldn't bother arguing. You look really dumb now. Warren and Thomas are both playing great. We got **** back for Kanter. This would have been a good trade.
