What's new

My apologies to Trey Lyles

I literally didn't look into trey lyles before the draft. I was high on Turner and Payne. Think they would've been really good on our team, I'm glad Lyles has been showing his potential.

No apologies from me. Once I started criticizing the pick on this board, he started playing well. You are welcome everybody.

Love the way he establishes his long-range shot & then works off of it with pump fakes/hesitations. His handles are extremely impressive for his size/length. He also has a great motor & seems to just enjoy playing basketball. Regardless of whether he is ever a starter or not, he looks like he is going to be a major asset for this team.

Lyles playing like this so early in his career indicates that he is starter material. Favors is a proven starter. You cannot have 3 starting bigs. And you cannot afford all 3 either. Question remains, does Lyles make Favors expendable? Not immediately, not right now, but can you see it coming?

We may lose Withey to free agency at the end of next year. So that would mean Favors now gets 15 minutes of center duty again. So while Lyles wouldn't start, he could still easily get 30 minutes a game. No reason to trade anyone unless its a killer deal.

A lot of if's, but if Dante' and Burks come back healthy, and we sign a solid vet, we should have a pretty deep team next year. That makes us 8 deep with Trey, Neto, and Withey bringing up the rear.

It's great to see Lyles coming on strong. Just imagine if we can find a gem in the draft this June. That shooting guard from Oklahoma deserves a close look.

Hard to say, so much to a game besides offense. However, Lyles offense is smooth and has a nice mix of floaters, 3s, layups and dunks. I think he compliments Rudy and Favors very well.

I'm getting more and more excited about Lyles, but I'm still not sure I'd take him over Devin Booker.

I liked Booker better during the draft, but Lyles is looking pretty good.
Booker still looks good. He's had many more games where he's scored double digits. He's shooting 43 % from 3. I like his combination of swagger and IQ. He's even younger than Lyles, too.

Or it means you find another backup center.

I agree. My point is the difference between the two is smaller. Lyles size could be a big plus.

I disagree. Good new age 4's don't grow on trees, strength of our team is on the wing. I didn't like Booker at all before the draft, liking him more now, but Lyles was the correct pick as far as I'm concerned. Jazz needed a big that could space the floor and cause matchup problems. Adding Lyles does more to help our offense then just adding yet another wing.

Our 3pt shooting is a strength to be honest, and better then people realize.

Hood is starting to stroke it better Ingles, Burke, and Hayward have been around 40% lately, and now Lyles is getting open look after wide open look. Think I saw a graphic that showed Lyles is shooting 55% as of late. If he continues to get open looks, I can't see him dipping under 40% from 3.

Point being that for this team it would be much better to add a floor spacing big then yet another wing that can shoot, especially when that floor spacing big can also hit the three point shot with regularity because all of his shots are wide-open threes now Favors, Hood, Hayward, Burke and Burks have more room to operate. And actually fits the offense Quin wants to run.

Plus floor spacing and overall more to the offense as far as where u play him for stretches of a game hope he's utilized at times as a stretch 5 the way Paul Millsap was used as a bigger sf when Corbin was coach forcing the opposing teams to adjust going outside their comfort zone.

We needed spacing at the 4/5 in the absolute worst of ways. It makes a ton of sense why the Jazz went after Lyles.

Shooting at the 2 or 3 can be found. A versatile stretch-PF who isn't a minus-defender? They don't grow on trees.

Favors/Rudy/Lyles are our Gasol/Bynum/Odom

There are dos Treys coming on strong this year. Is there another Trey available anywhere? It would be sort of cool to have trey Treys.
