Deserves own thread - Omer Yurtseven

My Lord... the only thing ugly about that was the douche bag coach suggesting that a then 16 year old should show loyalty to his team over what's best for himself. That's Stone Age crap.

Can you imagine being 16 years old and being berated by a hypocrite like that?? I don't care how successful the dude's been.

He is the next Kanter in terms of attitude. He could have played in Euroleague final yesterday, but now setting individual records in a U18 game.

Listen to what his coach Obradovic (8 times european champion) says about him. Relevant part starts around 5 minute mark

Damn. What a rant. Not the first time though. It looks like players leaving Fenerbahçe a really good opportunity for young players to learn fundamentals and earn money and become pros is becoming a trend. Fener is a weird psychotic team when their prospects leave them. Looks like Obradoviç has sucked the air right up his lungs. A great dude. And he is right. But the mentality of American basketball and the European basketball are really different and European clubs have this problem of keeping their players away from the blindening light of the possibility of becoming a lottery pick in the NBA. Livin' Da Dream...

****ing 2K... Stealing all those prospects from Fener.

I would agree with Obradoviç. These kids are acting too fast to become picks as young as they can be.

Enes did it. He now lacks a lot of the most important fundamental aspects of the game. He is the worst defender in the league. He is one of the strongest centers in the league and he cannot play D? Man, I think someone forgot to teach the kid defense. This cannot be his fault. Oh wait, he was ineligible in college right?

So how do these leagues work? If the kid is eligible for NCAA he isn't playing for money, right? So is he in school while he plays for Fener? Who takes care of him? I always just assumed Sabonis had his dad to fall back on so that's why he was okay with not getting paid before college, but there's probably a whole system there that I'm missing.

This is too short-sighted.
How can anyone claim Enes "did it wrong" when he went #3 in the draft and is making huge money?
So what if he wasn't "ready?" Pro teams draft largely on potential.. and then coach them up.

Only time I think a kid may be making a mistake is when leaving a good situation and go undrafted or non-guaranteed contract.

We all have to remember... it's the kid's life. They don't belong to the fans, the teams, the coaches, or the franchise. It's their journey.

Fener does everything they can to try to make sure the kids are ineligible for amateur play.
According to Omer and his parents, they haven't received one dime from Fener and haven't signed any agreements whatsoever. Fener claims they have paid into an account "on behalf of Omer" and thereby he has been paid.

Omer says the account does not belong to him or his family and they have taken no money.

So let's assume the NCAA rules him eligible (for giggles)... He would be on scholarship and have his education, room, and board paid for by the university of his choice.

Easy peasy.

Definitely. This is why I always supported Enes' decision and Ömer's too. It's their life. And it's a pro game. They are agents that are free to do whatever they want as long as the papers allow them. I am just saying my thoughts about the importance of fundamentals out loud. If these guys could plant their seeds into a more mineral-ed soil, they would harvest the highest potential crop out of the effort and experience. Also I don't think basketball is all about money. It's much more than that.

Ömer and his parents acted clever on the deal. Fener made their move to threaten him with ineligibility by paying him into his account, but guess what, they did not withdraw a dime! Lol. I bet this is why Fener is mad as heck.

We have to ask, if playing for an NCAA team experience is as important as playing valuable Euroleague minutes for a contender. It's a decision.

Contradicting to my points of view on the importance of fundamentals for the young prospects that desire to become great ballers in the game of basketball, I also love following extremely young guys trying hard in the league to become phenomenons of their own as soon as they can. It's a thrilling experience watching them showing up sparks of brilliance.

Color me skeptical.

I once saw a Pepperdine commit, Tyrone Shelley, score 76 points in 3 quarters vs. a team from Canada during a HS tournament. He got a lot of buzz in local San Diego newspapers. The articles neglected to elaborate on the fact that his opponent was a JV team from a tiny HS in Canada that played 4 girls in its rotation. The score was 55-2 after the 1st quarter, and 96-8 at the half.

I hear Yurtseven is a stud and a definite NBAer. But any time I see a stat line like that, I start to question a few things.

Sorry but he would not have played in Euroleague final. Coach was not giving him time. He is not under any real contract. Dont blame him one bit for pursuing something else. Unfortunately, he is a bonehead in the aspect that he added the state to North Carolina hopefully he will go back and see his error. They better get docs to NCAA fast. I can easily see him not getting clearance before season starts.

How much was Omer playing? Almost none. He will play a lot of minutes with NC State. Should be fune. To bad NC with crush him when they play.

Well there are a few differences. Ömer's 91 point game was in a game of youth national league and a 7th spot match up and the final score was not that absurd: 115-82.

He was 34/49 from 2 point shots, 5/11 from 3 point range. He had 5 assists. The rest of the team scores 24 points. Not the best ball movement scene I would look for but a crazy stat line in any case.

Even in the article in the link above, they write it as he got to Canada without permission and got bashed by Obradoviç for this, but actually Obradoviç in his own words in the youtube video above says that he had permission, but they are pissed that there were injured players, and Ömer did not decide to come back and play, did not wish good luck to them. I dig Obradoviç's mentality but this is not good enough to bash a kid that seeks success in his basketball career.

Well if you look at it this way, his coach said he won't play him because he screwed them over. Until the contradiction between the two sides, he was getting it as far as I know.

In a Turkish league game yesterday....

91 points
28 rebounds

Evan Daniels saying the 16 class ('17 draftees) is as good as he's ever seen.

Heard that a few years ago on this board from that PKM dude.

1. Any truth to the rumor he's going to UK?
2. After the game he reportedly said defense isn't important. (JK)
3. Sounds like he's the best player of his generation.
4. Who is PKM?

Oh, and I don't care WHO the competition was. Jazz don't have ONE player who could score that many points if you left them unguarded every shot.

I don't know why any of this matters, or is remotely Jazz related. Couldn't the entire thread go into the Following 2017 thread? Jazz will be picking in the 12-17 range next year. Too good to win the lottery, too bad to be relevant.

Read my posts above. :D Just comitted to NC State. Probably will be last time PKM posts about him then.
