What's new

the improbability of Joe Ingles' defense

And I disagree. I have coached basketball for 20+ years and having a desire to be a good defender is first.

Then second is knowing the techniques about keeping your butt down, arms ready, positioning and anticipation. Also knowing your players tendencies.

I will agree that measurables will make some one elite but Ingles doesn't have great measurables neither does hayward.

Look at JJ redick he has made himself into a serviceabke defender.

6' 10" wingspan on a wing isn't a good measurement?

and just straight-up LOL at the shade you throw on Hayward's measurable athleticism.

but, pls, give us some more boilerplate goosebumps.

I was laughing out loud for about half the game last night. It was my favorite game of the season (right behind the Jazz vs Spurs win). Joe Ingles was a huge part of the run we had before the half. Then Lebron came back the second half and kicked our butts for about 5 minutes until Quin came to his senses and put Jingles back in on Lebron. I paid close attention to watch what would happen and the results? Lebron missed his next shot and 3 of his next 4.

Jingles is a solid nickname, but with all of the references to him as an old, fat, slow man... I propose a new nickname.

Joe Ingles should just be known as:

DAD

I always thought "Pa Ingles" was a good nickname for him, maybe it's too old of a reference for most fans.

Defensive development is similar to shooting development... you need to work at it to get better but some are going to be better and there is likely a cap on how good someone can be at it... no matter how much they want it.

Joe plays solid defense and has a high basketball IQ. He's mentally checked in... some players tend to lose focus.

There are indeed those guys who don't care much about defense but most NBA guys "want it" just aren't skilled or strong enough.

Joe also wrestles gators in the off season... royal rumble style... three or four at a time.

No gators here in Adelaide. Just Eastern Brown snakes. That's bad enough.

Joe actually flips truck tires for fitness in the off-season. I know that doesn't sound too impressive, but he does it four at time, because they are still on the truck.

Having to shower with Adelaide's dreadful hard water explains his flat dreadful hair

I made a sweet graphic, but Jazzfanz hates my pictures. It says my image is 257 kb too large. Nobody seems to fight loading pictures. It's not hard to do. I used to be able to do it. But something isn't working. I thought it was a cool pick. Oh well. I can try to PM someone if they want to load it I guess because it isn't going to happen from my computer. And my computer isn't that old.

I've stopped even trying to load pics. It's easily the most backward thing on the backend of JFC.

Yeah we need to revisit that. Let me explore it. Send me the pic if you'd like and I'll get it on here for now. My apologies. Thanks NAOS for the heads up.

Say what they want about Slo mo or YMCA, to me the guy is a stone cold killer with athleticism that somehow goes unnoticed. His alley oops to Hayward particularly are a thing of beauty and nobody on the team throws them as well. It's quite possible after the rap around pass to Hayward on the drive that he may be the best passer on the team. And defense, what this thread is about, I think what makes him so formidable is that he has no fear and he wants to taunt you into punching him in the mug. You can see it in that wild eyed look and the way he gets up on you, even if you are a "superstar". As for the athleticism, he has some of the quickest hands I've ever seen and he's completely ambidextrous.

Probably the best thing to come out of the Exum draft so far. I'm pretty sure Exum had a lot to do with bringing Joe in in the first place.
