Europe sounds wonderful.......
I 100% agree with this, but this isn't going to be too popular in here. Just so you know, as valid as there points often are referencing Jon Stewart or Bill Maher on anything might not be the best idea. No matter how well thought out or great their ideas are, they will be dismissed by the very individuals you are trying to persuade. They are obviously liberals, and most of those individuals are of the mindset that no matter what the liberal says they must be wrong. Even the very unbiased NPR is concidered the bastion of liberal evil.
Wouldn't be that bad... probably better than our current situation. Europe looks after its own.
It's the same old song and dance, yet for some reason, we the voters keep letting it happen over and over again.
I sure do hate Bill Maher.
I love how he uses some of his time in that interview to make it sound as if Marijuana and Gun Control are 2 of the bigger issues facing America right now. It seems to me that the most pressing problems we face as a country are fiscal in nature. While I'm one of the independant voters that he dismisses as lazy people who don't do their homework, I'm more interested in putting somebody in the White House who can look at this country like a business and find a way to get back on track from an economic standpoint. If there's a candidate out there with the ability to accomplish that, I honestly couldn't give a **** how he/she feels about Marijuana, Gun Control, Gay Marrige, etc.
Maher is a no talent hack who's specialty is breeding hate and discontent so he can capitalize on it in an effort to continue drawing a paycheck (the conservitive talking heads are no different). If somebodly like Mitt Romney was elected and totally fixed the economy, you'd still have guys like Maher railing against the fact that Americans can own guns, or how a Mormon conservative is blocking efforts to legalize Marijuana. On the flip side, if Obama or another Democrat balanced the budget, you'd still have guys like Limbaugh blasting them for the same ole **** they are always harping on. It's the same old song and dance, yet for some reason, we the voters keep letting it happen over and over again.
Does this mean the following statement is correct then?
Democrats love Facts they just hate Truth
I had only a couple problems with that. First, being angry that any democratic president would "compromise". Yes the last thing we need is any kind of compromise among the people leading out country. That is such a terrible thing.
Second, the flat out refusal to admit that maybe, just maybe, the electorate might be slightly leaning closer to the side of the fence opposite the one that Maher worships. Of course no one except morons, gullible religious idiots, and vile evil people can possibly have leanings to the right rather than the left.
I am sure glad more democrats do not think exactly along those lines. Or rather I sure hope they don't. I agree wholeheartedly that each must adhere to their principles, but to deny that people are allowed to think differently than you do, and to be unwilling to find solutions that will work no matter where they come from is simply arrogant, ludicrous and incredibly damaging to America.
Otherwise I think he is right about much of what he said there. I differ in that I think the best answers 99% of the time lie somewhere in the middle, and *gasp* sometimes it might be closer to the left or closer to the right. The problem is too few politicians are really looking for solutions. Rather they are trying to find the right buttons to push in the electorate, and the best way to slam the other side, in order to get themselves or others of their party elected next time.
(Oh and yes Republicans did propose a health care bill, and obviously Maher did not read it or he had it translated for him by Michael Moore, as it was far from "go screw yourself and die". It was not much better than Obama's, but it also provided for more choice and scalability in the future, rather than simply forcing people and businesses into choices they may not want to make, and that frankly were largely not in the best interest of the individual or society. But of course we can never consider that maybe part of Obamacare and part of the republican bill may together have been the best option. No we need to make sure we put our fingers in our ears and yell "la la la la la I can't hear you la la la" while the other side speaks. Don't want our exclusive infallible logic and knowledge to be polluted by differing opinions.)
That logic doesn't work. You should try a 10th grade SAT prep course to brush up on these problems or something.
Ah yes, because tort reform and HSAs are soooooooooooooooooooo much better... *barf*
I think the rest of the industrialized world which has better health care systems might know a thing or two that we don't. Our system is broken.
The Maher's description of the repub plan was accurate.
Unfortunately, Maher also thinks that we give a damn about marijuana and gay marriage.
You should go back to your 9th grade ACT prep course and brush up on your logic skillz.
I defy your logic, and raise you a bad attitude, and disdain for politics in general.
