What's new

The Albums/Concerts Thread of 2011

Huh. I've given it a few more listens, and I love "Bridges Burning," rather like "I Should Have Known" and "Walk," and find most of the rest tolerable, but it's just not grown on me that much overall. Any other tracks that really stuck you to the other listeners in here?

And just to lay my cards on the table, I'm one of those pansies that really liked Echoes Silence Patience and Grace.

Huh. And I didn't find much to enjoy in that album. The horrible "Erase/Replace" just killed the album for me. Guess we have different tastes. Or you're wrong. Either way. I liked the back side of "In Your Honor", so who am I to judge?

Although I actually like the 3 songs off the latest album that you mentioned. Miss the Misery and Arlandria probably fill in my top 5. Arlandria is one of those songs that I'm trying to get myself to dislike, because it seems so cheesy and random -- why would you sing about that stupid place -- but I can't help it. I'm a sucker for the layering, and I think the vocal harmonizing on this album is their best yet.

Still, they'll probably never reach the lofty expectations they set with their all-time best: "For All The Cows".

The Kills' new album is pretty damn good.

My reaction has actually been quite negative. It's possible this will change over time. I was also disappointed in "No Wow" when it came out and that's now probably my favorite Kills album.

My favorite "new discovery" album (although not from 2011) is:

Loved their live show in Santiago.

What in THEE HELL is that? David Bowie meets those gays w/ White Tigers? Sometimes Tink, I wonder about you.

Trust me it was weirder in concert. Hot ladies dressed as swordfish and such. Only saw the show because it was next to the Finlandia vodka booth. May have affected my perception of how cool it was at the time.

Itunes had "Walking on a Dream" as a free download a while ago. I downloaded it just for that cover, which may be the worst album cover in the past 30 years. The song is surprisingly not bad for ****** Europop.

I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be evocative of the Star Wars posters.

I think they're actually going for the MGMT sound.

Erase/Replace is so damned terrible. That's one of the problems with the Foo Fighters, they seem to have no quality control for really terrible songs. Of course, Breakout turned out to be a hit, so what do I know?

In retrospect, I really don't even like most Foo Fighters albums. Save for the first disc of In Your Honor, I tend to love the hell out of three to five songs on every album and find the rest anywhere from listenable to embarrassing. But on those songs, think they're the best rock band still working. Bridges Burning fits in that category.

I'm not a fan of the Foo Fighters at all. Dave Grohl has quite possibly the worst voice of any lead singer in the history of music. His live performances are pathetic.

Clearly someone who hasn't been to a Rush concert in the last decade.

Really? You had a choice between Ed Ved, Kurt Cobain, and Dave Grohl and you went with Dave Grohl? I like all three of them, but usually squares like you go straight for the heart of grunge.

I think Grohl has the best voice in rock, his vocal range is really immense for someone so heavy.

New Foo performed live if their studio. Awesome.

Winner.

Come see them with local poo-rock legends Gaza on June 4th. I think.
