Lillard plays so well in SLC... I wouldn't take 2 horrible contracts for him though!

Well the issue here is how you feel about the roster then. Their cap situation IS terrible, it's a fact, but if you feel the players are worth it and can lead them to contention (or be used as assets) then sure you wouldn't think they are in a bad spot. I don't feel that way at all.

They did what they had to with the pieces they had. This is the best way they could contend. Letting assets go in hopes of being able to sign better ones later is too risky when you aren't free agent spot.

Olshey has shown skill as gm with drafting and trades. They are fine.

They didn't do what they had to do. They signed Turner to an atrocious deal, Leonard and Crabbe look to be on pretty bad deals too. Their tax bill in 2018-19 after not clearing space for Nurkic as you suggest would be out of this world. Like at LEAST $100 million in just luxury tax. They are not fine.

Idk how many times I have to say it, paying the luxury tax concerns 1 person: The owner. If the owner is willing to pay it, I see no reason to worry about it. I'm sure Olshey talked to him before he signed these contracts. It's not like the LT just crept on them out of nowhere.

They used their cap space when they had it to get the assets the felt suited their team and to not lose their RFA. They have plenty of flexibility with trades if they want, and they dont have to give up any of their top 3 players. They have one of the youngest rosters in the NBA. I would be optimistic as a Blazers fan. People way overvalue cap space.

I thought so too, but the numbers the Blazers put up with him in their lineup were top 10 in offense and defense. Maybe not sustainable, but it's reason for optimism for their team moving forward.

Turner is, Leonard isn't.

10 million a year for the next 3 years is hardly that big of a deal. I'd rather have Leonard than Alec Burks.

Making a trade doesn't mean you have trade flexibility. Of course you CAN trade, you just don't have as many options and as much of a market without cap space, which is important for a team that doesn't project to be a contender.

So the plan is to use the 1st rounders to dump those contracts he signed? He signed bad deals, and now they are in a bad spot because of it. His plan was for the contracts to work out and/or be tradeable.
