New Idea With Lakers

So why are we trying to help the Lakers out? We did that with GS too? I doubt the Lakers would do this deal and I wouldn't do it simply because the length of Deng's contract.

We got Hood and Bradley out of the GS deal so we got value for helping them. We would need much more value in this deal. I don't see us making a significant FA add this year or next... final year is ugly, but if we can get Exum/Hood extensions done and still fit Deng under the luxury tax I don't think its a bad idea...

Let me be clear I would need two unprotected picks and Kuzma at very least... would even ask for Nance Jr. to start.

They probably say no as they likely think they can hold him until the trade deadline and not have to give up as much.

The Lakers are going to wait until 2018 to dump anyone. They need to see if they can get George and if they can get the thumbs up from Lebron or another star that they want to join. That's when they will enter desperation dump mode. And if the Lakers get George and Lebron, their first round picks become much less valuable.

So in short, please stop bringing up Luol Deng trades. The Lakers dont have enough assets to unload him unless they are dealing Ingram because their picks arent valuable if they are actually getting Paul George and/or Lebron James.

If we offered it now they'd likely consider it and if they were worried that their picks lose value if everyone knows LBJ and PG are coming then they will need to add even more valuable. There is value in the uncertainty right now. Everyone will also know they are over a barrel and there are not nearly as many salary dump places as in year's gone by.

It's worth a conversation, but like 99% of the stuff we discuss it doesn't happen.

It's not even worth a conversation. This poster has brought up trading for Luol Deng countless times to the point where it feels like spam.

I'm Kuzma's #1 fan here, but I'm not trading for him at the price of taking on Deng's contract and a bunch of scrub rookie contracts + a 2019 pick that probably won't be that good (besides teams basically never trade unprotected picks anymore).

And the big point: they have no reason to not wait to do any kind of deal involving Deng until 2018 as his negative value decreases every year.

Really? They just dumped Russell. And they have to re-sign Randle. C'mon man. Think ahead.

I don't understand how some of you morons just don't get it:

- We lost Hayward because we were patient and didn't see clear signs..
- We will lose Favors because all those signs are there again if not more.
- We don't have the money or a good pick to add anything substantial this year OR next.

You have to give to get in the NBA trade market. We need another asset for the long haul of Hood, Gobert, Exum and Mitchell. Taking Deng is worth hoping to gain that asset through picks, Kuzma or Bryant.

Throw Burks in instead of Diaw and make it top 5-10 protected and I do it. Maybe.

I find it funny how you guys think we will get some great free agent to sign here if we have money. OR, what we currently have is gonna be enough to be West Finals relevant off of development alone.
