Most improved player next year?

I don't know if this has already been discussed but I think there is a decent chance one of our rookies last year could be the Most Improved Player for 2011-2012. Both Hayward and Favors had underwhelming rookie seasons to start, but we all saw how they finished the season strong. I would think Hayward would have a better chance because I could see him getting more playing time next year.

I'm not sure what kind of stats they would have to get, but if you compare the stats from this year with the stats from the upcoming year, there should be a drastic difference, especially for Hayward.

Am I just being a homer or is this a realistic possibility?
 
I think it's very possible, but I think it's more likely from Favors than from Hayward.
 
Nah, its way more likely from Hayward because of ease of playing time. He will get probably around 30 mpg, where I think Favors will be more around 25.

But someone who I think should look most improved has got to be Evans.

If that kid hasn't put on at least 15-20 lbs and developed something other than a dunk, then I think we need to seriously cut the ties. He will have several months to hit the weight room hard and put on some weight. That should have been his #1 goal this offseason. If he cannot accomplish something so important... Well... Probably need to look in other directions.

There just aren't very many 6'8" 170 lbs PFs that can survive.

Cut the ties? Why? Keep him on the bench as a quick burst energy guy if he can be afforded.
 
I think its way more likely to be Hayward. I think he could potential triple most of his stats plus will most likely be getting a lot of playing time since we are soooooo weak at the wings right now. I don't think Favors could come close to tripling his stats and he's going to still have a hard time getting a lot of minutes.

MIP is almost always the player with the greatest increase in PPG; so Hayward may be in the running if he wins the starting 2 or 3 position this coming year..

Holy ****, every player in the NBA is not at all star level. A guy busting his *** getting paid that little (less than 500,000) is a perfect bench guy. He gives excellent energy, actually has a decent shot and occasional shot blocking and loads of dunks is worth all the money. He may be extremely weak but that is ridiculous to cut him. If the kid gains weight and develops a little skill, he could be a monster off the bench. Glad your not the GM
 
Im going to go with Favors, I really think that Millsap will be traded but it just depends on what happens draft night. My guess is Utah is looking at trades that involve either Millsap, Miles, Okur, Harris, Bell with Evans and the rights to Tomic as throw ins.

I see Utah holding onto Jefferson over Millsap though. And I really think that Utah will be one of the busys team draft Knight (word play there :)
 
I highly doubt we trade Millsap this year. I know the Dwill trade kind of has everyone on edge, but this is still a franchise that isn't trade happy.
 
I never said Evans should be a star. It's just that having him out there is a liability.

I know he dunks real good and everyone seems to just remember the dunks. But no one seems to remember the rebounds and defensive possessions he gave up because he's just too light out there. Nor does it appear, which is my main point, that many of you are interested in his work ethic.

Folks, what I'm talking about is his work ethic. He went into this offseason needing to put on more weight and develop some skills. If he doesn't do that, then I think we'll know a lot more about him than we think. And it ain't good folks.

We cannot have any more lazy asses who get by with their athleticism. (Like AK has done his entire career). We're trying to build a championship team, right? Everyone needs to be working on and improving. Everyone.

Sure, AK and Evans can dunk good. But lets focus on the big picture here. We don't want any more lazy *** cancers.

I think that they our going to shock everybody with how busy they our. In nba chats its that Utah is looking at some many options right now. They don't know what direction they are going to go.

If Utah drafts Kanter then trading Millsap makes a ton of sense. Plus I'd really like to see Utah trade (Fez bird rights), Millsap, Okur, Miles for Kirk Hinrich/Josh Smith. Then Move Harris to Portland for Batum, Fernandez, Pick

Hayward, Fernandez,
Smith, Batum
Favors, pick
Jefferson, Kanter

@Thriller. Your post doesnt' make much sense, you just said he needs to become a completely different player.

I don't expect Evans to be in consideration for MIP next year (when was the last time a Jazz man was in consideration for it?) I don't expect him to become a starter or even a solid 15 minute a night type of guy. I don't expect him to gain 20 or even 10 lbs.

Believe it or not, he's already tried to put on weight. Every time they write an article about Evans they talk about how hard he and Hayward work, this suggests to me that if he could, he would have already put on the weight. He is working with the Jazz's dietitians and strenght coaches, I'm sure of it. I'm sure he worked with them at his college too. He's not going to be putting on tons of bulk unless his body allows him to do it. And he's not going to do it if it means sacrificing athletic ability. His athletic ability is what got him this far, why sacrifice it for some muscles?

I think he should stick with what got him a contract. Improve those skills. He could obviously some midrange game, but we dont' need to completely transform him.

Quite frankly, his *potential* got him a contract. As is the case with nearly all rookies.

I'm with Thriller-- if he hasn't improved at all since last year, then why re-sign him past this coming year? But, hopefully he will have improved.

Evans=Lazy *** Cancer because he hasn't put on weight. Gold.
 
Assuming Miles is picked-up, I think he has the best shot to be MIP. I could see his averages jumping from 12 & 3 to 18 & 5, assuming he puts in the work this summer.
 
I hope we pick Miles up. I still like him even though most of the board hates him. I doubt he averages 18 points though, 15 would be great, 13 is probably the most realistic.
