Sorry Jazz fans – Ben is the NBA Rookie of the Year

I mean it was debatable during the regular season. But literally no one who doesnt live in Australia or Philly thinks Simmons is the best rookie in the playoffs.

I like that you are going down with the ship though, good on ya buddy.

The playoffs only last around 10 games.
The regular season last 82 games which give better indication who is best rookie. You can't compare the 2.

I like the idea of Ben getting the award after having an inferior impact when it matters most... like the sad Dirk MVP press conference when they got ousted in the first round.

There is also a feedback effect. The language you use changes how you think, just as when you force yourself to smile, you start feeling happier.

BUT TRIPLE DOUBLES YALL

I’m so over the triple double thing... like if a guy has 30, 8, 8 that’s awesome but two more rebounds or assists and it’s the best thing frickin ever.

simmons had better stats in regular season so he is a better player even though Mitchell is playing better in post season.

lol what?

It is weird that they wait to announce the winners of regular season awards. Announce them when people care about them at the end of the regular season. Once the playoffs start everyone's perception changes and they are less important. It really hurts the awards.

I agree, and I think it makes for interesting story lines, too, especially if the award-winners are in the playoffs. As it stands, they announce it long after it usually matters for any cool drama reasons. If they'd announce it in the lead-up to the playoffs you'd really get some fun stories to watch.

70 % of neutral , unbiased basketball fans and pundits would say simmons is the best rookie.

The idea that only Jazz fans are biased is really funny. The narratives spun by pundits and national NBA media outlets have made Simmons the "obvious" frontrunner for your average NBA fan.

This convo is too high brow for the internet... just don's say things that hurt people's feel-bads.
I agree with this and I practice this myself, but that isn't the point I was trying to make. What I'm saying is that words only have power if you give it to them. Tell me why when you say someone is retarded you're ridiculing them but when you say they're developmentally disabled, you're not. I already explained this, by the way, earlier in the thread. Anyway, I agree with HH on the basic level. Just be sensitive to whom you're talking to when you choose your words.

Bet you never in his career read a line like that about DM.

While I get this. Simmons is a pass first point guard who took 2 shots before the last two minutes. I can guarantee Mitchell will never do this (nor should he - and nor should have Simmons).

What I was most disappointed in tbh, was his pathetic defensive effort. Never seen him so disengaged and flat footed. Rozier got everything he wanted - never 'felt' Simmons size and length.
