Who would you rather have?

I've read and seen a few videos at the possibility of the Jazz going after Fred Vanleet. If that's true, would you let Exum walk if we were capable of picking him up? Or do you sign them both and let Fred run the point and Exum backs up Donovan?

I personally love Fred. He's only a year old than Dante but exploded this year (especially towards the end of the season). Now the same argument can be said of Exum but Exum can't really play more then 14 games before he's injured and out for a while. I also wouldn't sign Exum anywhere over 5 mill a year.

If we could get both for good prices, I'd take them both. Neto would obviously be gone with this signing.

Thoughts?

To get VanVleet, Utah is probably going to have to overpay a bit. I wouldn't mind him, but there are other options available probably for a bit cheaper.

You realize he played in 82 games his rookie year, right? Fred would be a nice upgrade over Neto as our third pg

Thats a no. The dude is 6'0...

You obviously arent watching the NBA finals and paying attention to current trends in the NBA.

Also, our identity is DEFENSE. We need LENGTH at EVERY position.

Whens the draft start @WhiteChocolate ? I cant handle these dumb *** threads anymore.

Cause being 6 foot means you're a terrible player.
You asked for thoughts and my thoughts are you're an idiot.

How does this move the needle in ANY way? Please explain... or you just making threads because you need the attention? Theres already half a dozen threads discussing offseason moves and you wanna start one discussing Fred mf Vanvleet... gtfoh.

Nah, Exum showed enough.

Exum was our top net rating player this season. He also showed his elite defense is back now that he is healthy. He showed he can attack the rim well and isn't afraid of anyone.

I don't know why anyone would give up in him now.

I'm just as concerned about Rubio's health as Exum's.

Vanfleet will be to expensive as a 3rd PG. Since we are not giving up on Exum.

He would be an okay option if Exum gets a big offer we won't match or Exum or is a part of a sign and trade for a bigger name.

Good post @Ron Mexico.

Rubio is PG #1, Exum PG #2. In a pinch, Mitchell is PG #3. Even Joe can do some facilitating. Spending more than a couple million on a 3rd PG is bad business in our situation.

At the risk of not jumping on the flavor of the month bandwagon I have to say VanVleet is decent - nothing special. He's an over-achiever who proved he belongs in the NBA - mostly because his NBA life depended on it (see Trey Burke). And when you say he exploded at the end of the season I'm guessing you mean the regular season cause he sure sucked in the playoffs.

As shaky as Exum has been his ceiling is way higher than VanVleet's.

I think if some nutjob GM comes in and offers Exum redick money, then VanVleet is a guy you look at along with a bunch of other guys - back-up PGs are about a dime a dozen. And I wouldn't want him on the team with Exum. Makes no sense.

I like Fred and thought about it... I thought nonhe gets close to MLE.

He’s the kind of player you don’t want to sign to the second contract... you want to find the next Vanvleet not overpay for this one.

If you are looking for a 3rd string PG just draft Jevon Carter. He has the potential to be a decent backup.

Would love him in the second round. He’s got a low ceiling but a high floor as a backup PG.

Nah, Exum showed enough.

Exum was our top net rating player this season.
.

No he wasn't, it was Rudy but Exum was 2d. He showed enough to give him reasonable 2 year deal. If he wants something outrageous he should be let go. VanVleet at this stage would be massive upgrade as he knows how to run half court offence and Exum still can't get it after 4 years in NBA - problem is Toronto is not letting him go anywhere.

Where are you getting those stats from? NBA.com has Exum #1 for net rating. Technically Naz is #1 but he didn't qualify.

Exum runs the offense fine. He did a decent job of getting the offense as a rookie. He got the team into it's sets and moved the ball to where he should.

I think Exum gets 4 years $40 mil and it's a great deal for the Jazz.

And a bad deal for Exum - what if he breaks out next year or the year after? He's stuck in a 4 year deal that's way undervalued.

If I'm Exum and I believe in myself I want a two year deal max.

Maybe, it's still pretty good money and if he breaks out he will still be young enough for a big deal after as he enters his prime. I would take the biggest guaranteed deal if I was him. You never know what happens. Chase that max deal at 26/27 years old if you believe in yourself.

But I can see your point if he doesn't get a solid offer.

We need to sign Exum to a 3 year deal. By the end of it, we will know exactly what we have with a Mitchell/Exum backcourt. And Ingles and Gobert will be expiring. If we aren't contenders in the next 3 years, we know we need a new direction around Mitchell.

Exum stagnates half court offence very badly. He overdribbles the ball and takes forever to make decisions. It was extremely painful to watch him play PG vs OKC. It got better vs Houston because it was more run and gun type game where he was feeling more comfortable. 4 years 40 mil is massive overpay for him and I doubt Jazz would offer anything more than 2 years for off injured player who after 4 years is still an unproven project. 2 year/15mil and Exum should take it and be thankful for the trust and a final chance to prove himself.

That's a different stat but still another one he of near the top at. Just another stat that shows he played very well. Watching his defense in harden is enough for me to give him 4 years.
