2019 Trade Deadline Discussion

I know these aren’t the names being tossed around much but just spit balling. Boston may be testing the waters with jaylen brown and terry rozier. A young athletic group of Rozier Mitchell and Brown could be good. Also I know Mitchell and Deangelo Russell are good buddies and Russell is having a breakout year. A backcourt of Russell and Mitchell could become the best in the league. Thoughts?

I think the Boston trade market is on pause until the AD trade is done, whether it's with them or with another team. They're not going to give up assets unless it puts them in a better position to land AD.

I don't see the Nets trading DLo. They are in the hunt to make their first playoff appearance in years, DLo is playing well... trading him could deflate that team and fanbase.

Brown will only be dealt if it's in a package to bring a superstar to Boston. Ainge isn't going to trade him otherwise. So I don't see him ending up here.

Rozier is a possibility maybe.

I love all three but I don't know how we get any of them. We might have a shot at Rozier if we sent our 1st this year, but not even sure that does it.

Aing isn’t going to trade either for less than an allstar, also need to consider that if the C’s don’t land Davis, IMO Kyrie is gone slotting Rozier as the starter.

David Locke on his podcast today said he thinks he'd prefer the Jazz do a trade instead of hoarding cap space for free agency because while Utah is the hottest it's been for FAs, it still isn't a destination. Said imagine if Brooklyn or another big market offers Tobias Harris (the most talked about FA to the Jazz) the max... he ain't coming to Utah.

On the other hand, Tony Jones has been adamant for like 18 months that the Jazz see themselves as big players in FA... Unfortunately, a bunch of teams are gonna have a ton of cap space so competition will be fierce.

My gut feeling is that the Jazz are going to be big time buyers on the trade market. When Woj was interviewing Ingles he talked about how much Ingles likes the trade deadline and how he texts Woj for news and tells Woj to text him the news first before tweeting it out lol. Then Woj talked about the trade deadline said something like "and your Jazz will..." then kind of bit his tongue before saying anything (Conspiracy Zyzz).

I feel like I'm in the minority that I'd love Conley on the team, don't really want Porter unless it's just a Wizards salary dump but still meh, and Jrue is the dream. I kinda think Conley fits the team better, but age, injury, and contract favors Jrue.

Per Woj:

“The message that’s been given out to teams is, ‘Hey if you want to make an offer go ahead, we’ll put it up on our board.’ But New Orleans is really focused on the long play here with these trade talks with Anthony Davis. The trade deadline is obviously next Thursday [February 7]. It is very unlikely that they’re going to be engaged seriously enough with anybody to do a trade by then.”

Honestly, this kind of pisses me off. The Lakers, Celtics and AD are pretty much holding the rest of the league hostage right now. Both franchises should lose draft picks for this garbage because everybody knows they are jockeying for AD behind the scenes. The entire NBA landscape, even through the playoffs, will be talked about with an asterisk. "Great win by Utah tonight, but where is AD going to go?"

If this AD thing gets drawn out past the deadline, I personally, as an NBA fan, will be pissed. Screw all three parties (AD, LA and Boston).

How dare they take time and try to get leverage by showing no urgency... fine everyone!

When news gets out ask yourself why did this get out? Who wants this news out there? NO needs to get the mega offer from LA or NY.

Did I blame New Orleans at all? Read my post. I'm pissed off at LA, AD and Boston.

None of this crap should have come out until the summer. If Klutch or Paul or whoever wanted to demand AD get traded AND they knew Boston was a frontrunner, why waste everybody's time right now? If you suspect New Orleans is behind this, they could still get the mega offer from LA in the summer. I don't think NOLA is behind this at all.

The small market teams like Utah suffer because of stuff like this. Right when trade deadline communication was about to open up, a massive monkey wrench got thrown into every conversation because AD might or might not be dealt. And that means Mirotic might or might not be dealt. And Randle. And Jrue. Etc.

It's all just unnecessary if the whole goal was to wait until summer. I'm tired of a few franchises pulling the strings for so many.

This likely isn’t holding our trade market up. Nothing happens until the day of the deadline. Conley, porter and others will move or not move regardless. Boston LA and NY may not do anything but other teams ain’t waiting on AD... communication is always happening.

Lmao. Of course this pisses you off.

Wait? What did LA and Boston do to piss you off? And AD has done what many nba players have done before him.

Of course some of the same situations still exist, but taking New Orleans out of the situation because of uncertainty really messes up the landscape.

A week ago, NOLA was one of the strongest and most willing buyers. Now, we don't know where they sit. That could work out in our favor, but for as much research and planning that goes into these moves, having a team like NOLA in no man's land really alters the landscape potentially.

But to answer your question. LA and Boston have been violating the essence of league tampering rules for over a year now over AD. If you don't think LA/LeBron are partly to blame for this Klutch sports ultimatum to NOLA, you need to stop posting and start reading.

Sure players have said they want to be traded to their own organizations, but what happened earlier this week is pretty unprecedented. An agent sent a formal message to the media telling everybody that AD doesn't want to stay and actually wants to be traded. That is so much different than Paul George telling the Pacers and then the Pacers leaking that PG wants out. NOLA got publicly punched in the gut by a player and his agent. And they feel entitled to do that because LA and Boston have been completely violating the Pelicans left and right.

Just a reminder people will complain no matter what.

Hayward played his contract and left. People complained.

AD gives his team a notice so they can trade him. People are complaining.

Which way you want it? Players got freedom when they become a UFA.

I'm going to leave NOLA alone for a minute.

What about this idea:

Dante Exum
for
Terrence Ross and a 2nd rounder

Why for Orlando: They are desperately seeking for better PG options. They might be in the running for Fultz, DSJ or Rozier, but Exum represents a much cheaper and/or less risky option than those 3. Ross is expiring so they might just lose him for nothing this summer. Since Orlando might pay to bring back Vucevic, getting a potential starting PG for under $10 is worth the risk. Orlando has 3 2nd round picks this year so giving one up isn't a huge deal.

Why for Utah: Exum gets mixed results from the Jazz fan base. I personally still have faith he can become good, but we don't have time right now to hope he gets good. With Mitchell learning more and more how to run the offense as our PG, the long term need for Exum might becoming less and less. Ross is a lights out shooter who can help us this year. He could even be a great fit for down the road but if he doesn't fit or leaves, we have more money this summer.
