Most Glaring Roster Holes

this will be an unpopular target here but a guy who's defensive splits are intriguing to me are Kyle Anderson. He ain't pretty but if Memphis wanted a salary dump and would take Ed and TB back for him I think he's kinda interesting. He's long, plays good defense, and he can pass. The rest of his game is tough to watch. He has shot well from the corner 3 in previous seasons so maybe he can get some of that magic back.

Another target would be Aminu with the Ed/TB expiring. With Isaac out they likely need Aminu so may not be willing to dump him. He had knee issues... not sure what his health will be like.
Kyle has maddening stretches where you’re convinced he’s unfit for the NBA. Very puzzling player.

Just imagine a lineup of Niang, Bojan, Ingles, Anderson and Bradley... MEH

Yeah I'm not sure BAE is a convo starter tbh. I think he could get one year and $10M from NO worst case scenario. He might get closer to a Zubac type deal. I would not give him more than 3 years. He's very clearly better than many of the guys on that list... so not all good comps.

But that is what I'm kind of saying. He's starter quality... so you pay a premium... when others are getting by with paying less. It's why I'd want some variance in the type of big we got... so at least it'd add another dimension.
I don't think he is starter quality and most of that list of comparables making less than $10 per year are better options in my opinion.

Green, Kleber, Theiss, Aminu, Looney, Zubac, etc.

If we offer him more than BAE, he eats our MLE. I think we have more pressing issues than backup C.

Conley/Mudiay
Mitchell/Ingles
Bogdanovich/Oni
O’Neale/Niang/Brantley
Gobert/Bradley
(I’ve left out some other names of course).

When I look at this roster, some things are made plainly clear:

1) our PF rotation is,,,,horrendous.
2) we need to re-sign Jordan Clarkson
3) we need a very strong defensive 1/2/3, as opposed to more of a defensive forward.
There’s been lots of commotion for another “3 and D” wing— personally I think we have this in Royce and we already have a big time scorer in Bojan. Our money should be going into guards and PFs. Bradley is fine, but an idea may be to cut him loose and sign Favors.

I root for dudes like Niang and I have a bias for dudes that make themselves out of nothing when in reality they just came out of no where like, Millsap, Matthews and Royce O'Neale (apologizes if I spelled his name wrong) but Niang isn't one of them. He's a YMCA shooter that everyone thinks would kill it in the NBA, but is a liability. He's like a tall Eddie House. Put him in when you need a three, but I wouldn't even trust an unwarmed Niang before a warmed up ****** 3 point shooter.

Do you guys remember in game 1 vs Denver when Niang missed a wide open three that was offensive rebounded and kicked out to him and then he took another 3 (mildly contested) which he missed. That was rebounded by the Jazz and he cranked an immediate third missed 3 like he was firing like he was Kobe, PG, *insert any other star's name here.*
Thurl Bailey is all like, "if you're a Jazz fan you're not upset with that."

The Jazz's military-esque philosophy is what's made them consistently good, but has held them back too.

I hope this makes sense to some. I'm sure some will disagree, and who knows, I may be wrong.

The bolded portion is a big problem imo.

I also think the rules and skill level of the league are trending against players like Rudy. I wouldn't be actively shopping him if I was DL (unless the extension talks go poorly), but I also wouldn't hang up the phone if other teams were calling on him.
And the questions regarding Rudy staying or not would be well hedged by getting a PF/C, which is then an argument FOR Favors even though he can play a MAXIMUM of 28 minutes a game and not a second longer or else his body will explode.

I’m increasingly obsessed with Christian Wood for that reason and many others. I guess it runs with my perpetual obsession of obtaining a PF/C that can shoot and:
-protect the rim
-rebound
-have the agility to guard on the perimeter/switch.

In other words, a god damn rarity. But they exist.

If you gave me the opportunity to offer a max contract to Wood or the exact same max contract to Rudy, I give the contract to Wood.

I'm not going that far for a bunch of reasons. One of which is who knows how hard Wood plays once he gets paid. I love him as a player and think he's on the right path but I can't get on board with this.

Its damn risky, but giving Wood a max deal this summer when he is 24 is safer to me than giving Gobert a max extension this year that starts in 2021. Rudy would be 30+ in 3 of 4 years of that deal.

Name a big man over 30 who is worth $30 million.

I really want to know how many Detroit Pistons games y'all watched this year.
I'll be honest - not many.

I don't want to give either guy a max deal. I think max contracts should be rare. I don't think they should ever be given to old big guys. Ever.

The worst contracts in the league are almost always overpaid bigs.
