Boozer Agrees to Terms With Bulls (5 yrs/80 mil)

All the Jazz gotta do to square thangs with Deron is to put his ole homeboy, Jimma Augustine, on the books for about a haffa million a year, I figure.

Booze will digress from 20-11 to a 16-8 guy in Chicago. Especially with Noah showing more balls on defense and hustling. He'll never be an allstar while hes there. Our system fit him perfectly and maxed out his potential... it was essentially take away Malone and insert Boozer. We'll be the same team next year, although we need to resign Matthews definitely and consider bringing Korver back. All the good minimum players will be headed to Miami, NYK, and Chicago so we need to scout some gems in summer league and pre-season.
We need to look into having someone else take Memo off of our hands, because we might as well keep AK since he's off the books in a year, and can be resigned for 35% of what he is making (maybe).
We don't need to rebuild at this point, we just need a tune-up.
Deron is still the best point in the league, so never count us out.

Okur was extended for two years and 20 million. Not quite the 5 years and 80 million he got. What makes you think he would have taken 12 million a year when he knew a lot of teams were going to be under the cap. The year before he opted into his contract because there were almost no teams under the cap. The Okur signing at the time did not seem that bad. I dont think KOC had a crystal ball that he was going to tear his achilles. We were -2 with Boozer on the court last year. For every two points he scores he gives up two. I recall us playing quite well without him two years ago when Millsap started. I find it ironic that someone complaining about 2years and 20 million thinks we should pay Boozer 16 million a year for 5 years.
Boozer accepted 1 year 12 mil dollar offer right before that. Why did he do that you think after he was saying he was going to get a raise regardless? Because his value was at all time low. if Jazz came in with 5 year 60 mill extension, he would have to seriously consider. There is no way he could possibly demand 80 mil after just accepting 1 year 12 mil and coming off poor season and with no one else to make an offer, and with Jazz offering long term security before his deal is even over. But Jazz didn't attempt to negotiate. They told Booz to screw himself. Now that Booz had 20 and 11 season, 20 and 13 play-offs, and Jazz have no leverage at all, with several teams looking at him, of course his value is A LOT higher than last summer when he had a poor year and only Jazz could have given him contract. Greg Miller was the guy who fumbled the ball here when he told Booz to screw himself and instead extended Memo. Well, guess who is screwed now? It certainly ain't Booz, that's for sure.

...exactly! His pick and rolls with Rose will look like something out of a funny farm....expect a SERIOUS increase in his turnovers as well...and they were too numerous to fathom when he was here!

The Jazz may or may not be a lot worse next year. Still a lot of water to go under this bridge before next season.

They will, however, be much better off in the future because of this. Boozer was good enough to keep them somewhat competitive, but not good enough to be the focal point.

Boozer is and has been fools gold. Big numbers, but the Jazz have always been roughly the same with or without him. We have a lot of experience watching the Jazz without him. No big dropoff as some of you suggest.

I am sure KOC did try to be creative and get something for him. There are more teams this year with cap space than there are marquis players to spend it on. Best year in a long time to be among the top 6-7 free agents. Why would those teams do a sign and trade unless they had something they wanted to get rid of. The guys other teams are trying to move are not what the Jazz are needing.

The Jazz tried to do what you all are clamoring for a few years ago. Signed two free agent bigs. Boozer and Okur turned out to be good players, but not good enough to satisfy you. Now the Jazz are trying to recover from that attempt, but have been hindered by those contracts to those two and AK47.

They will try again, with DWill as the centerpiece. I hope it goes better this time, but nobody knows how these guys are going to perform in the long run. It is a gamble to say the least.

I am anxious to see which direction they go next.

What a great day!!!! Its better than Christmas, where can I buy a new jazz hat? It's like leaving a bad job, moving from a neighborhood you hate, or breaking up with a girl you didn't like, or leaving the hospital after you were sick. GO JAZZ!!!!!!

Hypothetically, we could still get a TPE out of Boozer for nothing, as long as he'll agree to it.

Yeah 16M a year is too much for Booze is too much. Good luck in Chicago.

What was AK's contract again?

Seriously, if the Jazz wanted to keep Boozer, they would have extended him a year ago when they told him they wanted to "go in another direction."

Boozer in Chicago gets Chicago to the 2nd round, nothing more. They're not going to beat Orlando, Boston, or likely Atlanta and Miami. We'll see though.

Yes we might be a worse team this year barring any other moves in this offseason, but it finally put us in a position to go another direction instead of sticking with a frontcourt that cannot defend. Just stand by and we will get there. Signing Boozer for the next 5 years with $80M, though, won't get us there, and we will be toyed by the Lakers again and again and again and again and again.

And, for those of you who thinks we are significantly worse, give Millsap a chance. At least he tries to play defense.

There's also word Boozer is going to try and recruit LeBron to the Bulls. How bizarre would it be if he was successful?
