Pacers Making Play at Millsap?

No reason to even debate the Granger option. No way Pacers would trade him for Sap unless additional pieces are put in place.
Agreed. We aren't getting him or Hibbert and would be lucky to get George. If we could the deal would have been made on draft night. Doubt much has changed. If we are going to trade him we should shop him elsewhere.

Where else then?

Kevin Pritchard, the guy who tried to sign Millsap, is with the Pacer's organization. Interesting fact.

Not sure. Just make him available for some outside shooting/picks. Wouldnt be surprised if we find it in our best interest to keep him. Heck of a player on a good contract.

I disagree. The Jazz don't really need anymore picks. We have the amount of 1st round picks needed on the team, and in the future coming up. I think it's time to pursue some legitimate talent.

Granger = Wish list
Hibbert = Already a log jam in the Jazz front court.. also I think we need to evaluate how Kanter & Favor gel first before bringing in Hibbert
George = He's good but not an ideal fit right now as we already have 2 and 3 locked up with Burks and Hayward. You would really upset one of them by bringing in George IMO.. again need to evaluate how Burks & Hayward gell first before bringing in George.
Collison: Good, but can he be great?
Hill: Again, good but can he be great? He'd set good screens for us though.. and has proven that he can hit that open 3's.. also he's a pretty heady and gutsy player which I think could thrive in the Jazz system. Spurs only got rid of him because they already have Parker..

I think realistically it comes down to either Collison or Hill + 1 role player + Pacers taking back some of our bad contracts. I'm leaning towards Hill, IMO, just because KOC seems to prefer a more durable PG and he's more experience and has proven both in the regular season and in the playoffs that he can step up..

My thinking is the Pacers are going to try and be a FA force this year. I think they are going to go after Nene or Gasol. They want a PF to pair up with that, so I think they really want Millsap because of his contract. Collison is their only PG, and he is good and young. George is their equivalent to Hayward, but probably even more hyped up by their fanbase. Hill is a young combo guard who is probably capable of being the starting SG. Granger is the expendable one due to his contract. We probably give them either Miles + Sap for Granger, or Bell + Sap for Granger. The Pacer's then amnesty Posey (I think he has a bad contract) and sign some other players because they have a ton of cap room.

Pacers lineup would be
Collison
Hill
George
Sap
Nene or Gasol

Also they would mantain a decent bench with Psycho T, Hibbert, and Miles/Bell.
That's a solid line up with a potent front line and backcourt with potential and I don't think they can do much better for Granger. Pacers will suck for another year but will be in position to get a good draft pick in a deep class.

OK with everything you've said but wouldn't this be a better line up:

Collison
George
Granger
Sap
Nene or Gasol

I do think Pacers can get more for Granger than Millsap. There aren't many super stars in this league and Granger has to at least be one of them.. I would be surprise if they'd let go of him. But if they do I'd swap him as you've said with Millsap in a second.

More realistically though I think Pacers would offer: Hill/Collison/Hibbert + 1st round draft pick + role player + take away bad contracts for Millsap. I'd take Hill and make him take away Bell & Harris.

Yes, that is a better line-up. I just don't think the Jazz are looking to trade Millsap for bench players and picks. If they want that they can just move Millsap to the bench and he will be a better bench player than any player we get for him.

Why would the Pacers do it: They are willing to really suck one more year for a shot at a high pick in a loaded draft while picking up a solid starter @ a low price. A stretch, I know, but possible.

You're probably right.. on second thought I don't know if either Hill or Collison is significantly better than Harris..

By process of elimination therefore.. it's Granger or no deal..

Disagree on both counts. We don't really need anymore picks in the NEXT draft, but now is a great time to be stockpiling picks that could be conveyed in 2-3 years. Even if we did acquire another pick in the next draft, it could be used to move up or in a trade. I'm not saying I think we should trade Sap to get a pick, because I don't, but you can never have too many assets.

IMO, next year is the time to pursue legitmate talent, not this year. Utah could really be in a fantastic position next year, stacked with high draft picks and trade flexibility.
