Will Hardy expected to be hired as head coach

That's true, very well could be the case.

I'm a fan of Jensen going back to him playing for the U. I'll be sad to see him go.
My source told me they expected Jensen to stay on, which was a big reason he was scheduled to coach the SL team. Jensen has been here since before Quin.

Hardy coached Rudy Gay in SA... so maybe he can help him get back on track.

I hope so. Though If I was Hardy, I'm not sure I would want to keep Jensen on. There has to be some resentment there after being with the team for so long and passing up other opportunities and then to not get the job.

The idea was that he would stay on for the last year of his contract then leave. I doubt he wants a college job. Makes sense to just stay put if they dont want to axe him, but maybe they do.

Maybe he follows Quin to San Antonio next year. Hopefully he gets some other opportunities at a HC job soon.

Conflicting stuff from Jones/Larsen.

Larsen says its about the future, Jones says its about Hardy's vision for a Mitchell led team.

Tony still said his consistent line of thinking on the radio that if the Jazz don't make it further than second round they blow it up end of season when he shot down the "are they rebuilding?" question. So it might just be timing. TJ also mentioned the 5 year deal is in part to give security if they do rebuild.

Just from a practical view Jensen was coach of the year in the GLeague, so Hardy could lean on him a little the first year as someone who has been a head coach and then bid him bye bye after the first year.

Alex didn't get it. Now he gets to work with a younger guy that was no more than he was, an assistant. That could get weird internally. I could see Jensen bailing this year. I've seen this before in the workplace and it can be very uncomfortable and often untenable.

I'm sure he is second guessing not taking the University of Utah job last year.

I don’t think 5 year deal means anything. It could 2 years and 3 team options for all we know. Also, young coaches don’t necessarily mean developmental coach. The 5 years thing is as likely to signal that the Jazz tried to get a discount as it is they are signaling a rebuild. In other words, it doesn’t signal anything.

Whether it is accurate/intentional TJ did say 5 years fully guaranteed.

On twitter he said “[Tony] just knows it’s a 5 year deal” when asked about options. So…I don’t know what to say besides that’s how TJ reports lol.
When he talks sometimes he throws in words I think he thinks are filler... but the are very much not filler. I mean we just learned about Quin's structure of his contract recently so who really knows.

Yeah and I don’t think TJ happens to be the only one who knows the details haha.

My first reaction to the 5 year/super young coach is that of those meant something, it’s more likely they tried to trap a young coach in contract jail with team options. To me that’s more likely than the Jazz being willing to make a big, long term financial commitment to an unproven coach.

Hope he hangs on to Jensen. I think AJ continues to be one of the very good young minds and he knows this team. I think he can move pass not getting the top job.
