Jazz and Knicks discussing Donovan Mitchell trade per Shams Charania and Tony Jones

If the Jazz miss out on Wembanyama, Dereck Lively isn't a bad consolation price. He's a 7-foot rim-runner who can handle, pass and shoot out to 3pt range.

Just saw Woj on ESPN, he seems to think this is going to drag on for a while, said he think the Jazz and Knicks will re-visit their conversations in the coming weeks and the Jazz will hold conversations with other teams as well. Said time is on Utah's side and they are in no rush.

I mean, I wont be surprised if he's not thrilled, but the poster made it seem like he was going to come here and sabotage the Jazz because they traded Mitchell?
I think you read it wrong.

I think he was saying that IQ on the Knicks would have potential to sabotage the Knicks (in the same way that Pascall/Royce friendships presumably did with the Jazz's lockeroom).

The longer it goes, the more problems have chance to make it. It not neuro surgeries. Make it or don’t make it move on

Has there actually ever been a time where a star player was up for trade and it dragged out and the team ultimately traded him for less than what they could have gotten?

I always hear narratives about how such and such player's trade value is going to fall if he's not moved soon, but it never seems to actually pan out that way and the team trading the star always gets a massive return after waiting.

I think the Jazz should absolutely be patient and not rush to make a bad deal, but I sure hope NY starts getting desperate and decides that they need to pull the trigger and get “their guy” into the building.

The longer this goes on, the more likely something could throw a wrench in the deal and I think there’s a lot of pressure on NY, Rose, CAA, Adidas and Adam Silver for this to actually happen. Donovan ends up in Toronto, Orlando or even Miami and there’s less hype to this than if the Knicks land their home-grown star.

So flip him in January. <Barret>
Yeah you can do that, but I stll prefer for the Jazz not to be burden with this issue.
The new cult is clear: develop not that expensive young potential role guys and for all that's good sake do well with the picks.
Kind of the inverse of get the alphas and then surround them I guess.

Knicks are getting skewered in the court of Public Opinion for considering a starting guard line of Brunson and Mitchell. They gonna reconsider - only DL is that stupid. With the Ayton situation, Miami is positioned in the the KD sweeps. Might come down to Orlando for the Jazz and Mitchell.

Shams said basically the same yesterday and all the responses were sad and angry faces. Now Woj says this today (along with a note about the Jazz having leverage, very likely simply carrying water for the Jazz FO), and everyone is liking this evaluation?

Guess I see why front offices are so happy to cooperate with Woj if one little subtle (speculative and clearly working-for-one-side) remark changes everyone's moods.
