Jazz and Knicks discussing Donovan Mitchell trade per Shams Charania and Tony Jones

Two years from now they will have access to picks that are further out. Those picks will be worth a lot. They will not be destitute.

They really should trade us RJ + their 23/26/28 unprotected 1sts. That would leave them with their 24/30 unprotected 1sts next year plus Toppin/Grimes/Quickley.

If they give us 3 unprotected picks then in two years they can trade their 2029 and 2031 picks. If they trade us 2 and its the 2023 and 2028 picks then after the 2023 draft they can move 24/26/30

Also, I'd bet a lot that Danny is most interested in Quickley out of the Knicks young guys and the Jazz get him. When this first started, Quickley was the guy the Knicks fans wanted to keep. He is an advanced stats darling, and, for some reason, a type of player that Ainge covets.

"Fine you keep Grimes, but we will need an extra pick and, I guess we are stuck with Quickley."

Yep. That's why Danny isn't going to settle. The Knicks aren't going to be as pick poor as they claim.

Right... especially if RJ is playing 4th fiddle to Donovan, Randle, and Brunson... will be hard for him to breakout in that scenario. Here though... I think he could blossom.
Eh the 4th best player on decent to good big market team gets more shine than the best player on a bad small market team. It's the Kuzma Theorem.

Shine is fine and good. Kuz has more trade value now than last summer. When you are 4th fiddle and the team has Lebron and wins a title you get shine. When you are 4th fiddle and you have Randle and you are a play in team.... well that ain't great.

Well, I'm over it. They'll finger it out.

Meanwhile, I thought I was g@y but I'm fully turned on by this lady tennis match on TV. It's Serena vs Estonia nerd babe. Any else watching this? Sexiest event of the year. Got me rethinking myself at age 40.

Oh, for the prediction portion I think the deal goes down tomorrow.

Still prolly g@y though.

Do the Jazz want RJ to flip him or to build around? Asking because Fisher mentioned it. I'm guessing its to keep him.
The Jazz want him to build. Jake is really good so I don’t doubt what he’s hearing. But I think there is this sentiment around the league that the Jazz are aiming for this prolonged rebuild and that’s just not the case. They know they are not going to be good this season, but beyond that they are trying to open another window quickly. I’ve reported this repeatedly and every time I have it’s been met with real pushback. So now that it’s clear that the Jazz want Barrett back in this deal, I think other sources around the league are like “well they must want to flip him”, which is where Jake and others are hearing from their sources. But never once in this whole offseason has a jazz source to me indicated that the front office wants a lengthy rebuild. The plan is to tear it down this season but try and get back as quickly as possible. That means getting Barrett and having something to build with. If the Jazz get Barrett and toppin, that’s a nice start. As a Knicks fan, I’m super high on toppin. I think he has potential to be a star if he comes to the Jazz

Thank you sir!!! The details provided really help us understand the plan and how to view what we are hearing.

Obi would be entertaining as well. Even if he isn’t a star. He seems like a joyful dude… we will need some joy.

I’m not entirely sold on Barrett taking that next step, but if the Jazz get him I’m totally rooting for him to become the dynamic wing they’ve been missing since Hayward.

I like Toppin a lot too, and I think I’d love to see a competition between him and Vanderbilt - so I’m hoping both of them are in Utah this year.

While the focus of trade rumors have been dominated by either Mitchell to the Knicks or the Jazz trading for (and likely buying out Westbrook), I still feel like the team will be motivated to move Conley as well. Any noise about him out there anymore?

Are the Jazz as high on Grimes as everyone says or has that been blown out of proportion?

Ugh, I hate half-assed tanks. That can't be Jazz's plan. If we can't tank around Wemby or Scoot, the window becomes much shorter.

Look at how Dallas is scrambling around Doncic because he was so good so quick or Pels bumbling because they feared Zion would ask out in year 2.

What about pairing a top-5 pick with Barrett is a half-assed tank? That is two elite building blocks.

Danny Ainge needs to give Knicks a deadline. They miss it. Price goes up. I'm thinking the Knicks are currently hoping if they wait the price will drop.
Mitchell for 6 1st picks.

I’m interested in this as well but my guess is Grimes is the McDaniels in this trade. I think the Knicks feel like it’s a win if they keep him while giving us something else of more value instead.
