Jazz trade for John Collins

Talent is talent is talent. Job of a good GM is to go get talent for the coaches to work with. If the Jazz have any cap space left, I fully expect them to add another player and roll with that group - at least until the trade deadline.

Collins >> Vando/Gay

At the end of the day, it’s an upgrade. Top-down roster building. Definitely a fan of that strategy.
Have you seen this bum at all in the past 2 seasons? I am guessing highlights is all? He is not the same guy he was coming out of college

He’s 19.5 and I agree… but raw is not the term I’d use. I think he will be more functional than most rookies at his age because of his skill set and athleticism. On a good team he likely deserves 15-20 minutes a night… on a **** team he’s fine to start earlier in his career. Raw is like what Bilal is.
Yep. He is raw in the sense that he needs to get stronger and work on his ballhandling but he also has some advanced skills like shooting, touch around the hoop and defensive awareness that I think are nba ready right now and will make him an effective player this season.

A early first quarter sub of Collins for Hendricks or KO will come and then you might match Collins with Dunn (who was shockingly awesome in PnR last year when I looked it up).

Gonna be interesting to see how they mix and match… Hardy has some weapons/options and seems like a flexible dude.

I've been harping on this idea that we need Luka for this roster construction to work, and while that's half joke/half true....I do think we're putting a lot of our players in a position to succeed. Do you really want Sexton/THT/Dunn to be your heliocentric ball hander? Probably not, but it's undoubtedly good for those players as individuals to dominate the ball on a spaced floor on with amazing help defense on the other end.

I don't think it's a meme that Sexton will average something crazy like 23/5 on great efficiency. He's in such a good position to succeed. Similarly, I think John Collins is going to obliterate opposing bench units when paired with KO in a 5 out lineup.

No Collins WAS a really good NBA player, he is not the same guy. It is obvious to everyone in the Hawks org. even though they clearly were trying to paint the picture that he was just having a down year trying to get value back in a trade for the past 2 seasons since he got busted. Fact is , he COULD get back to who he once was, but the odds it happens when he was so meh for 2 season that they never even tried to get him involved in the offense, says all I need to know about his ability or lack thereof
We gave up a 2nd round pick. Seriously? All you naysayers act like we’d given up the world to get him and we’ll be strapped forever. I just don’t get it. Did no one watch that video about both the Jazz and Hawk finances from the ESPN dude? He praised where we were.

They'd rather watch Rudy Gay and bitch about him.

Exactly. Why does no one else see this? It was redundant. Which tells me that more stuff is probably coming because DA is not as inept as DL. For DL he would have resigned Gay at 3/36 and called it a huge win.
That’s the only explanation for me. That DA is setting himself up for a bigger trade. Who would that involve? Any idea? And JC can’t quickly be flipped now that he’s just been traded, right? So I’d guess KO should be on the chopping block. Otherwise, we have a logjam at the 4-5 position.

He is far from a bum. The hawks were not a good fit for him after bringing in Capela and the system didn't play to his strengths. Even with that being the case he still had big games last year where you can see how good he is capable of being. These are some of his better games from last year and show what he can still do. When he is playing well there is smoothness to his game that is really fun to watch.

15 to 20 minutes a game for a rookie is just fine. Also I think we probably see Collins in the 25 minute a game range for this year when we have a healthy roster. When injuries happen though you can expect him to be closer to 35 in those games so in the end he will probably average around 28 to 30 minutes a game. Now the real question is what Collins do we get. If it is last years Collins then it doesn't make us any better in my opinion. If it is the Collins from 3 years ago then it is a pretty massive upgrade and if it is kind of in between the 2 then I agree that it doesn't improve us signicantly which I'm still okay with because I think that puts us in the bottom 5 of the west and we keep our pick.
So wait, we’re paying $80 million for a 25 min per game player? And we think Collins is fine with this small role? Is KO fine with seeing a smaller role too? He started and averaged 29 mins last year.

I thought I trolled this forum. Either people on this forum are delusional/just want the Jazz to legitimately lose every game, or the organization can't do the couch warriors what they want.

This off-season has already been a homerun for the Jazz. We don't have to watch Gay 15-20 minutes a game, we got a 25 year old for him. We've added a lot of young, athletic talent, that can shoot, and it's not even July 1st. Ya'll need to stop trolling so hard
Exactly... With all the assets this team still has we have a very strong nucleus being built. And yes, FA hasn't even started. Is Collins a world beater? No. But he's a solid piece to gamble on. He's much better than Gay that's for sure.

KO will be just fine with his smaller role and after this year likely has no future here. Most of his career he has been in that 20 minute a game range and will likely be in the 15-20 minute a game range this year. With Collins if he plays really well then he will get more minutes and Kelly will get less. If he doesn't then he will probably be around 25 minutes a game. It simply is what it is. As long he is allowed to play to his strengths which hasn't been the case with Atlanta the last few years then he should be pretty happy.

Here's the great thing about this trade. You don't have to worry about that.

Even Woj says it gives the Jazz the ability to compete in the west…. Wait, we all know more than the experts…
