Clarkson Opts In

Seriously who's gonna pass the freaking ball

It's definitely a big question mark. Lauri, Collins and Kessler are all going to need a guard to feed them the ball and I'm not really sure who that is at this point...Andy was on the radio today and he mentioned that 75% of Lauri's shots last year were assisted. Guys like Clarkson, Sexton and THT can facilitate a little, but I don't think it's enough.

For reference, Embiid had 62.7% and Jokic had 62.9% assisted rate last year. Latter is actually even one of the two main ballhandlers in his team and scores a lot more points from putbacks than Lauri both of which skew the numbers towards unassisted. Both are very decisive and thus their assisted rates are on the high side.

Once you go deep dive and analyze that number you will find out it tells nothing except maybe a bit about who generally likes to dribble before shooting. Luka 15.3%, SGA 21.0% and Trae 21.3% lead the league in that category.

Some use that number to make arguments about self-creation but then you can look at centers and the top 5 (min 30 GP) would be:
1) Robin Lopez (47.9% assisted)
2) Steven Adams (50.3%)
3) Julius Randle (50.5%) <--- yeah I know, not a center
4) Alperen Sengun (52.0%)
5) Boban Marjanovic (56.1%)

And if we make a minutes restriction to remove Robin Lopez and Boban, then we add Bol Bol and Mitchell Robinson.

I think the guys we have just need to facilitate a little more. You still want them to be aggressive on offense and not so passive like Conley. Lakers was a good example. They played dlo, reeves, Schroeder and lebron all of them can facilitate. It worked Vs Memphis but not Vs Denver. They needed a 3rd scoring threat. If they have sexton or jc they could’ve made it more competitive.

The Lauri assisted rate is getting a bit overblown. Andy made it sound like spoon feeding. Rudy lob is spoon feeding. With lauri you think of it like YAC in football. How far you can take the ball after catching it and how many times you reach the endzone. Lauris endzone rate is pretty high. The name finisher is really appropriate.

This is where I’m at right now. Go big or wait until the deadline.
But not too big. Like a 7 foot league mvp is probably going too big, right?

Good post. We will be fine.

Well, im not seeing a lot of ball hogs or black holes in a lineup of Ochai, kessler, Lauri, collins/hendricks/ etc so im going to say everyone? Thank god we have clarkson/sexton so we have someone who might be willing to attack rather than pass. We have too many passers in that starting lineup currently.

lmao

I think Clarkson takes a lot of attention off of Lauri and makes his life easier. If we end up extending Clarkson I think we need a low usage PG that can really facilitate and defend next to him. Dunn could probably work, but I would want an even better facilitator and someone that defenses respected their shot.
This is where a healthy Lonzo would be a perfect fit.
