The Non-Jazz NBA Thread in the Jazz Section

People told me I was an idiot when I said Mitchell would be the 4th best player on the Wolves. I don't think I was far off. I'm happy to see Rudy doing well.

If you still believe that you are still an idiot sorry.

Lmao what?

Why do y'all just say stuff to say stuff?
If we are saying 29 teams might have an injury vs. 1 team then obviously the odds are stacked toward the 29 teams... if we are saying one team may sustain an injury that allows cleveland to move up one spot... well that is just as likely as Cleveland sustaining an injury... correct? Except in one outcome Cleveland goes up one spot vs. the other outcome they fall many spots from where they should finish. Even teams that have good players end up in the lotto... it happens all the time. Especially if you are looking out 5 years in the future.

Mobley has next to no offensive bag and Garland is a turnover machine at times and sucks on defense. Neither is a great player as is, just good.

If/when Don leaves they need a good return of "win now" pieces, or they could be in trouble.

Magic and Pistons got better young pieces and are on the rise. Cavs are gonna have a tough time getting above .500 in a few years without Don.

There's just so much that can happen. Look at the Warriors... they basically oscillated from titles to lottery a couple times.

Even if they retain Don he has a 2-3 month injury and they are trending towards the lotto. They likely get picks and not win-now pieces for Don so it takes a cycle or two to turn those into a player.

Life comes at you fast in the NBA and I don't want any of the folks saying "we traded Don and Rud for a pile of magic beans" to change their tune if a few of those picks land in the lotto by saying "well I didn't know xyz would happen so I'm still so smart".

Ya, this. Obvi

Clippers fans want to have a word with you.
Ya the clippers adding harden was an obvious disaster to anyone who knows ball.

Nothing is completely random. You have great players and no reason to want to lose, you are probably not going to lose.
Meh, trading your entire draft six years out has a really poor record of success. There is nothing special about the Cavs or Minny that makes me think they can buck the trend.

You could argue it worked out for the Lakers, but they had an all timer on the roster and still gave up some lotto picks along the way.

Every year they get access to a new pick to trade. They still have a pick every other year. It's not like for the next 6 years they have no picks.

Every OTHER year. And the main point is that 6 years is an eternity in the NBA. And yes, going this far "all-in" DOES have a poor record of success.

We also have swap rights in the even years… so what kind of pick they will get is limited. Can’t pull a GS one year tank (not that it ended up being super beneficial but it could have been).

I mean the clips have given one lotto pick already in the PG deal… life comes at you fast.
