The Way to Get Giannis to Utah

I think there is a non-zero chance that the Jazz may be able to convince Giannis to request a trade to Utah.

How would we do this? Jrue Holiday.

Austin Ainge will use his Celtics connections to get a solid deal on Holiday. He will do that in connection with convincing Giannis that he will win a ring by teaming up with his championship PG around Lauri Markkanen.

The Jazz would trade: Sexton/Collins/Kessler/5th/2 future first to Milwaukee for Giannis (I think this is a legitimately great offer for the Bucks as it gives them a high pick and a roster good enough to make the playoffs in a weak conference due to them not owning their own picks)
The Jazz would trade: Clarkson/Keyonte/Martin to Boston for Jrue

Jazz would then have a starting 5 of:

Collier/Harkless
Holiday/Juzang
Hendricks/Sensabaugh
Lauri/Filipowski
Giannis

This trade would also change my draft philosophy. I still think we keep 21 in this scenario. I think a need for the above roster would be another shooter/ball-handler/playmaking guard, a defensive big, and big scoring wing.

So my top targets at 21 would be:
  • Walter Clayton JR: NBA ready and big time shooter. Would play well next to Holiday or Collier.
  • Coward: Longshot he's available at 21, but would be a dream fit.
  • Will Riley: Wing shot creator. Could be the Middleton for Giannis on the Jazz
  • Beringer: Risk due to lack of experience, but plays the safest archetype to project. Would add rim protection roster that it severely lacks outside of Giannis.
  • Yang: Big upside play. Wouldnt help team immediately, but could be ready by year 2.
  • Raynaud: More shooting to space for Giannis. Great rebounder and offers slightly more rim protection than Flip.

Then try to get a guy like Jamir Watkins at 43.

You don't think Milwaukee can get a better offer than that?
Who?

I think it's a great offer and like I said (which is probably the most farfetched BS of this post) Giannis would be asking to go to Utah.

The Jazz give them a playoff capable (in the East) roster (and one of those guys is Walker, an elite defensive center who isnt even in his prime yet), the 5th overall pick, and two future first. Maybe that would have to be bumped up to 3, but the Jazz have high quality picks to offer, so the number amount can be totally different based on perceived quality of which picks.

Do I think this is the best roster or would be a title favorite? No, but Im kind of amped up by the Pacers victory and think chasing the perfect rebuild is kind of lame, so if I could do this I would.

We could also probably get Middleton on the cheap in a trade and sign Brook Lopez to the MLE. Get the band back together for Giannis

As starters Middleton/Lopez are done, but as bench players? Could still work.

I don't know. Giannis is a perennial MVP candidate. I'm guessing they are wanting something better than that. I get the pick quality argument, but I think they are going to want pick quality and quantity OR a young player that has real star potential.

The 5th pick is the star potential.

Walker is a potential All-Star as well, or at least All-Defensive team.

Sexton/Collins are solid starters.

The pick quality could be the Suns 2031 pick. By all accounts one of the most valuable future picks in the NBA.

I think Utah is uniquely one of the teams that can give the Bucks win now players, a great rookie contract player who is already very good, a high current pick, and high quality first that arent tied to the team getting Giannis success/failure.

Is this a joke offer for Giannis, the absolute minimum the Bucks could get is something like

Harper, Castle, filler

Or

Amen, Sengun

And that's the floor. The offer listed here is nowhere close to that floor.

"Kessler is a potential all-star" no he is not. "5th pick is star potential" yeah probably not.

Giannis is the 3rd best player in the NBA, one of the 20 best players in NBA history, and you'll get him in his last prime years and his contract (post extension) likely ends exactly when you'd want.

Im guessing you are ignoring the entire premise.

I agree with most of what you are selling other than the quality of the 2031 pick. No one has any clue on where the Suns, or any other team will be in 6 years - and I dont think any GM is fooled by notion that it will be a great pick. In truth, if we are really going to start trying to win now, we would be much better off to have kept and used the 3 picks we gave Phoenix and used them as part of the trade package/s.

Then why did the Jazz trade 3 picks to get it? I think plenty of GMs would be greatly intrigued by it.

We are looking at the team with no centers and no scoring guards: if Lauri misses his usual 20-30 games they are not making the playoffs. The Jazz will go into the season with the 35-year-old Holiday, 30-year-old Giannis, Lauri and a bunch of the second-year players with no experience of the competitive NBA ball whatsoever.

It's speculative and is great because it has a high ceiling, but things change quick and it's also not out of the realm of possibility that it's on par with the three you traded for it or even the worst of the four.

i.e. cash in on its hypothetical value when you can (see the Lakers pick -- and all of our other Minnesota and Cleveland picks, really).

Giannis is saying that he doesn't want to sign an extension and is planning on being a free agent in 2027.

The Milwaukee Bucks' plans to trade Giannis Antetokounmpo will signal a rebuild centered around picks, with potential interest in Dylan Harper.

I mean, yes, obviously, he's going to the Spurs unless the Thunder somehow lose this series.

But this is also a garbage source, lol. I have no idea what "Fadeaway World" is.

Okay, I clicked deeper in and their source is a Blue Check guy on Twitter who doesn't appear to work for any outlets and uses an AI generated profile image.

This reporting seems unusually dubious for Yahoo Sports. If it was known to be legit, the internet would break.
