What's new

Collins isn’t playing his way into value. He had an extremely efficient 19/8/2 last year. It’s not his play that’s the problem, it’s the contract. Maybe the landscape changes and suddenly a team needs him. I’m not holding out for that. Just buy him out or waive him.

If he's not hurting anything than he at least provides entertainment value. He's also probably nice to play with for the young guys. I don't think he's much of a problem for half a year

To be clear I prefer we move on from him, but don't think it's a big deal to keep him for a little bit.

You've been saying it. AA has no attachment to the players we have. So I can see a move with either Walker or Lauri. The beat writers have been pretty consistent saying it won't happen but we did run some smoke and mirrors during the draft so who knows.

I’m just trying to create a scenario in my head that makes sense as to why something would happen this late in the game. If a team was trading for Lauri, they’d probably want to build their off season around it. Seems unreasonable to think it would happen at this stage.

A Walker/Collins deal might happen now because center options are limited. Like maybe a team is waiting in Ayton, and their backup is Collins or vice versa.

I think he is hurting things. He’s going to take some minutes that could go to a developing player. No way around it. And he’s also to help us win more than that rookie. We were a Bub Carrington game winner(and coin flip) away from missing out on our guy. Every game matters.

Entertainment value is subjective, but I like watching the young guys play and I am extremely embarrassed when we sit out our guys on purpose. I feel bad that good players are wasting the primes of their careers in our tanking situation.

I’m ok with doing what’s best for the team, but the fan in me feels icky about what we’ve done to Lauri and Collins.

I just don't think it's that black or white. I think you can give Collins plenty of minutes and we are not going to win games. I think it's more valuable to give young players minutes where they can be successful (surrounded by vets) as it is to jusr give them as much minutes as possible.

If Collins prefers to be bought out, then do it, but if not keep him until the deadline. Maybe nothing comes up by then, but you never know.

Collins is going to make you win more games. How many that is…depends on how many minutes, but it’s not black and white in the sense that we’re winning games or we’re not. He is going to hurt the tank, the extent to which he does can debated.

I don’t really value the “playing with the vets” thing. I don’t think it helped the young guys last year and I don’t think it’s had much value historically. Hard to prove one way or another. I just prefer the minutes and opportunity to be there. I agreed with dumping Sexton to clear minutes for the guards, I’d agree with dumping Collins to clear minutes for the wings/bigs.

I want out of this “hope he plays his way into winning value on tanking team” game. Especially when our pick is on the line and we’re supposedly not manipulating minutes.

Half tank was criminal management. We are paying for DA's sins.
The thing that makes this such a glaring error is that we’ve already identified the error of Ainge’s need to win trades and squeeze every team and that we lose value when he makes that decision. We knew this was happening three years ago.

Collins has to go. I'd attach another 2nd like Sexton if I had to. Him, Lauri and Kessler as your front court is dumb AF for this team and what we need to do next year.
You can't dump Collins like that. If he repeats his shooting from last year he has legitimate value, maybe even to the Jazz, long term.

Playing with starters certainly helped Collier. Bailey will need spacing to work on his game as well. Jazz bench minutes last year were absolute soup. I don't want to watch a full game of that slop.

I hated how some Jazz fans gloated about that. Like it’s an always a good thing that Ainge is such a stubborn negotiator. Maybe it had worked in the past and in certain moves, but we definitely lost in many cases.

Collier started playing better as the season went on. Did you forget who stopped playing as much as the season went on?

Winning trades is how you build a freaking team. How is constantly losing trades going for the Pelicans? They keep getting that lottery luck we dream about and they still suck, year after year.

I think in some situations it is extremely valuable for young guys to play with good vets and other times it's not. Cool, if you disagree.

I never said and am not talking about Collins playing himself in to value. I don't think that happens either. It's more of a situational thing where he could become a target or a need for a team mid season. He almost netted us a first round pick from SAC last year if the reporting is true.
